Ok, so . . .

I tried to come up with a cute name for a blog.  What can I say?  I didn't exactly succeed but I tried.

I called it "Pawz"ing for more than one reason.  Life is really, really busy right now.

We're (hopefully) well on our way to purchasing our "retirement" house.  Still working out just a few details on what we want the seller to fix.  But I don't anticipate any major problems in that negotiation.  So starting to prep this house to put on the market, getting ready to move, making arrangements for all sorts of things that need to be done is keeping me busy.

And MIL is going to be having surgery soon.  She's got a really bad shoulder-- she's dislocated it four or five times now and the doc said there's no more putting it off, it has GOT to be fixed.  So in addition to all the house stuff I've been helping her out more than usual.  And she'll be all trussed up for six weeks or so after surgery.  Did I mention it's her right arm?

Anyway, enough of that.  On to the good stuff.  What's a first blog post w/o some pictures?

Yogi on a walk a few weeks ago wanting to go play with a squirrel that was about as big as him!  And then letting me know what he thinks about baths and snow.  And lastly the feline contingent, SImon and Tipper.

Ooh I Love the name of your blog, it's Great!! And what super pics! Especially Love Yogi's bath pic, what great big eyes you have sweetie!! I'm not sure I've ever seen Simon and Tipper before- you're both Gorgeous!

How exciting to be planning for your retirement and getting your new home! We retired a couple of years ago and had high hopes of just getting the needed repairs made to our current home but nooope didn't happen! Try doing that on your newly reduced fixed income! You are the Smart one indeed getting what you want and getting it all fixed Before you retire!! ;)

Oh my best wishes for your MIL's upcoming surgery and recovery, that will indeed be difficult with it being her right arm. Keeping you all in my prayers. Hugs:throb:

I do hope your MIL for surgery goes ok and she recovers quickly.

Hope everything runs smoothly with your retirement home. How lovely, exciting times to look forward to.

I admire anyone who can knit!  I can cross stitch fairly well, and do the basic crochet stitch (is it called a chain stitch? or something like that?).  And that's the extent of my craftiness.  I'm craft impaired.

I can't cross stitch.. At one time I wanted to, but I never did find the time to learn.

Gorgeous!

What an exciting time of life.  Hard work, and I really feel for your MIL.  It is going to be a strain for everyone, but... new house.  Moving.  More leisure...

Yogi is delightful.  I can imagine what shenanigins my crew could have with him.  And squirrels!  Ha!

Can I suggest that we DON'T ever let Simon, Tipper and Sidney meet?  The world is not ready for that kind of mayhem.

Love the name of your blog.......great choice.

:coffee: I will have to make sure I keep the coffee pot filled now with more to my morning read. Congratulations on  finding your retirement home. Are you staying in the same city/state?  You have your work cut out for you.....wish you all the best. The husband and I about 2 years ago looked at condos closer to the city.......:nonono:.neither one of us want to travel, Bill said he did enough of that in the Navy and I moved so many times in my younger years I just wanted to plant some roots. Plus for over 15 years our house has never had curtains or blinds as we have no neighbors on top of us and we have the space to move around........condo living for us made us feel like we were so closed in. So I think we are going to stay as long as our health holds up......I always joke I will be 90 still out there mowing 10 acres...........

Wish the best for your MIL........I can only imagine the discomfort she is going thru........hopefully the surgery will give her some relief.

Love all the pictures of your precious little ones.........Yogi is adorable.

Yes, same area.  But the move will get us into a house where the master bedroom and laundry room are on the main level, so no having to deal with steps as we age.  And it's outside the city limits so much lower property taxes, no sewer fee and no monthly HOA fee.  It should reduce our expenses considerably, but it's still a very easy 15 minute drive to two major hospitals and all the shopping, restaurants and other conveniences.  It's going to be a longer work commute for DH, but he's hoping to retire in about five years and says he won't mind driving a little more knowing we're getting ourselves positioned for the future.

We've toyed around with the idea of relocating somewhere completely different for retirement, even moving to another country.  But in reality we both have deep roots here and while other places sound appealing there's a lot to be said for staying in familiar surroundings.

Will you have to "downsize"?  That was the hardest part of our retirement move.  My husband is a packrat and I am not very sentimental.  We had to give away and sell a lot of things.  One thing that helped was that we had just recently had to deal with my husband's parents' home after FIL's death.  I will NEVER do that to my kids.  I am constantly trying to rid our lives of unnecessary crap and battling my husband to stop buying crap.  He is a knife collector and has hundreds of them - some quite valuable, some crap.  I have no interest in the collection, it's like the "other woman" in our 51 yr marriage.  I have nightmares about having to deal with them if something happens to him.  We have no sons nor grandsons so no one in the family is the least bit interested.

I think it's a downsize of about 350 square feet.  Unfortunately what I'm losing is the spare bedroom we have here that's my grooming room and two large walk in closets that give us lots of extra storage.  In the new house the grooming area will have to be combined in the room that will be our home office.  But I think that will work out okay.

Thankfully neither of us are pack rats, although we've been a bit shocked at how much stuff we've already dropped off at Goodwill.  I told DH that from now on every five years -- every year ending in 0 or 5 -- we're going to pretend we're moving and do a clean out and re-organization.  I had to sort through all my parents' stuff and no, I don't want our boys to have to go through that!

There isn't much I have missed that we culled.......I tried to keep furniture pieces that had storage.  We love antiques and had several pieces that were pretty to look at but served no useful purpose other than to plop down a vase, knick knack or picture.  The biggest "give" was our garage - went from a 2 car garage with storage cabinets and shelves along both sides to a one car garage.  We cannot park a car in there and I am in a constant battle with my husband to stop buying tools he doesn't use nor even know how to use!

One of my guilty pleasures is watching "Hoarders" (my husband HATES it!) and usually afterwards I attack a drawer, cupboard or nag my husband about multiples of crap.......Maybe that's why he hates that show!  LOL.
