SATURDAY: Buck Beck and Golf

Tara:

We had an early start today!  Mum let us up on the Big Bed REALLY EARLY! (Mum: 6.30am) and then we snuggled til late.  It was GREAT!!!.

Then we all got up and widdled and stuff and went out for a walk.  IT started off really boring, and we thought it would be the same as yesterday :( but then it got really interesting!  Too interesting for me to bounce on Cato much!

This is me looking interested in Truffle Hound.

I will let Cato tell you the rest, cos he likes telling stuff, while I am a Hound of Action.

Cato:

So we started with the usual stuff.  But when we got to the Big Lake, there were millions and millions and millions of people in the way, and taking up our parking space.  Dad was quite huffy, but I think that was because none of us had had breakfast.  Dad likes his breakfast.  Early.

Anyway, they were all doing a Park Run thing.  Lots and lots of unfit humans staggaring around with sweaty faces and water bottles.  Mum says she wonders if driving yourself to apoplexy is good for the heart?  I don't know, cos I don't know what apoplexy is.  It doesn't sound like it tastes nice.

Then we did a bit of steering Dad down the right paths.

And then it got interesting, cos we have never been here before, and Mum was promising us sausages, at the end of the trek!!!

This black pipe is to stop drunk people breaking their necks.  OR something.

Mum offered to carry me over here, cos she knows I don't like heights.  But I was brave and walked just behind her.  And it was OK.

our breakfast was miles and miles and miles down along here:

Mum says do any of you recognise this dragon/horse ride?  She had one in a park near where she grew up, and she thought they were all dead, but this one is still going strong, 40+ years later.  Isn't that amazing?

I think it is amazing that Mum can remember 40+ !!!

We don't know wot this is, but Tara had to climb on it, and Dad went to keep her company.

Then we carried on trekking

These are some flowering Rosemary, and some yellow stuff, outside our Sausage place.

Where we sat.

Mum turned her back on us for a second, and Tara climbed up onto the tabletop!

That is NAUGHTY!!!

She shouldn't have had any sausage, should she?  I should have had it all.

Then we all walked back, on the path on the OTHER side of the beck, beside the Golf Course.  Mum woz trying to explain wot golf is, but it sounded so silly that I stopped listening.  Tara wants to play it, of course.

It was a very long trek back, and I got hot and panty, even though it was still only mid morning.

But we had a bench break and a drink and some reviving Truffle Hound, so it was OK

Now that we are home, I am going to have a lovely long sleep. :)

:coffee: Wow what a great way to start your Saturday.........that would be the walk I would enjoy then have a nice cup of coffee with a biscuit and sit and people watch a bit and then start the trek back. Cato I too agree golf is boring and I have tried it with little success.......boring.  The next time your near the Rosemary patch have Mum get some sprigs and rub on your coat.........you will smell wonderful.....the fleas if any are about will stay away from you. Thanks for the wonderful walk today.....enjoyed it very much.

OK - I have missed something and thought if I read long enough I would find the answer.......but I haven't.  What is Truffle Hound?

That was a nice long walk - your Mom and Dad are SUCH good parents.  Shorty and Sophie have a good Dad but Mom is always complaining about her feet and how she hurts all day if she walks with us.  Something about archritis or sumthin.

Cato:

@Marlene Truffle Hound is fun!  It is when Dad needs a sit down, or Tara sees one of her favourite benches, and we all go for a rest.  I sit properly on the ground.  Mum and Dad sit on the bench, and Tara just scrambles around and hops up and down, and makes a pest of herself.

Then we get a drink.  I drink first.  Then Tara splashes everywhere and gets her beard all dribbly and wet.  It is why her beard is such a dark pink colour.

Then we play Truffle Hound.  Mum and Dad take some tiny treats and they throw them, and we have to hunt and snuffle and rootle til we find them.  Sometimes they fall on the path, and are easy to find, cos they bounce and you can see them.  But sometimes they fall into grass and stuff and are really difficult.  That is when Mum says we are like Truffle Hounds.  Not that I have ever hunted for Truffles like proper Truffle Hounds do.  But I bet I would be good at it.

It is a good game.  I bet Shorty and Sophie would like it too!

Mum says hurting foots are horrible, but it is a pity you miss out on walks.  Walks are the best thing ever!  The sniffs are wonderful.

Aha!  So THAT is the Truffle Hound game!

I miss my walks - still do it occasionally cuz I can't stay away from the beach.  But that's how I wrecked my feet.......running barefoot in the sand for many years.  Ruptured achilles tendon that still bothers me and chronic plantar faschitis plus arthritis from stress fractures on top of my left foot :-( I maintain if I wear my lovely Rebok cross trainers with the $450 orthopedic inserts (I have 4 pair).  If I try to be "fashionable" in trendy shoes I pay the price.  I have truly become a little old lady in tennis shoes :-/

Ah, the joys of plantar fascitis. Not.

i had it for years - probably a lot less severe than you, but it was bad enough!  Eventually got rid of it using some pilates exercises i found on you tube.  I will try and find them.

if yours is worse than mine then they may be of no help at all, but i hope they do - it is a miserable thing. Every step. Hate it.

Here you go (apologies if you have seen them before ).  It was the calf stretch on the stairs that worked for me - in just 3 days.  Like magic.

Hope that helps.

I do all of these exercises regularly because I have this mess to deal with as well.  It can be very painful.  Sometimes, when it gets really bad, I will take a 20 oz soda bottle and fill it almost full with water and freeze it.  Then I will roll my foot back and forth over it.  It helps a lot.  I keep a little bottle frozen in my freezer all the time.
