FRIDAY 27th May: foot and face trim

Crinkly

Cato:

Mum had her fur trimmed this morning.  She left us on patrol while she was out.  It was quite exciting.  She is waiting to see if any of the neighbours complain about Tara barking.

once she got home, she decided to trim our foots and faces and my tail!!!  Lots of treats, but i still didn't like it.

No pics, cos she wants to go over my tail again before you see it.

but these are her iris pics, from the garden, in case you are interested.

Tara:

We had a street walk, but it wasn't nice.  The pavement was hot!  Sleeping it off.  And my tea.  That woz nice.  But i don't want a hot walk tomorrow.

Mum:

waited til 6.30 to walk them, but the heat was baking off the tarmac and paving. :( so we kept it short and sweet.

When I use to go get my fur trimmed/cut (now I just take the dog clippers and do it myself)  it was one of Sophie's favorite things was to meet me at the door and have me pick her up so she could smell my hair ...she loved the smells of the hair products.

Somewhere in my iris patches (all have went thru a relocation) I have that color.....but did not bloom this year.......I had a huge grouping of yellow and white but the mole had it for a snack and it is gone......the whole blot....dang mole. My iris's are done blooming so now I can enjoy seeing  yours.

These were some of my favorites in my gardens this season...........

I wished the blooms would last longer then they do.......they are so pretty and delicate......how are your ferns coming along? I actually found some wild fern growing on our creek bank....not in a position to be able to dig it up sad to say due to its locaton.

I have a cyber Boxer friend in Indiana who "breeds" Iris.  She comes up with all kinds of color combinations.

She used to sell them on Ebay - but it got to be too much work.

:) mine came from eBay. :)

bought 3 chunks of tuber (sp?) 3 yes ago. 2 flourished. 1 rotted.  And now I have this lovely clump.  Will need to divide them this year.

i would tell you the variety name, but someone has stolen the label.  Yes, Cato.  I am talking about YOU!

Here you go.

Came downstairs this morning to a lovely surprise from the irises.  Beautiful!

And the ferns have done very well.  I always worry that they won't come through this year, but I haven't yet learned to trust them - they are just very late starters.  lol.

These two are supposed to get about 3 feet high, but have not yet made it over 2 feet.

Not a single slug munch (yet).  I suspect it is only a matter of time! lol

iophone%20006_zpswfghop7o.jpg

Such a contrast between the old and new leaves...

And this is my favourite.  A month ago, I hacked the dead winter fronds back to 2 inches, and I have neither fed, nor watered him.  Isn't he gorgeous?  (need to feed him now though!)

This one did very badly last year, but is flourishing now:

And these are my new recruits.  All new last autumn,

Got this through the post last week.  About to plant.  Bit disappointed in the colour.  All research suggested a soft salmon pink.  Turns out the freshly opened blooms are ORANGE. Let's hope they fade!  Glorious scent though.

And look @AuntieAngel the palm is flowering! (the yellow at the stem)  He/she/it loves it here!

Oh, and finally, a volunteer, like Marlene's poppy.

:signthankspin: So much for the open iris picture...And a bonus was the rose...My second love ❤️

Can't express how happy that's made me! Yeah ...it sure don't take much to make me happy but flowers always...always makes me happy. Thank you again for sharing your garden and making my day start perfect

Do you have problems with snails and slugs eating your hosta? They always ambush my only one at night making unsightly holes. Does having it in a pot help? Mines in the ground and very large but every year they eat it ugly :(

Oh wow how Gorgeous, Love love all your plants! Stated my day perfect too! I too love roses but can't grow them here for all the japenese beetles, so glad I can enjoy yours! :)

And thanks Crystal, just noticed all the holes in my hosta that's down below and wondered what caused that. was thinking some disease and since I'm rarely down there hadn't seen noticed slugs, will check that out now!

We used to have huge numbers of slugs and snails.

I had no idea how many (cos you only see a few at a time), then 3 years ago we dug out the lawn and the giant honeysuckle that was threatening to pull the wall down (it was where the palm is now).  And there is a gap in the wall.  There were 100s and 100s (seriously) of snails sheltered in there for the winter.  And the slugs would have all been under the soil or as eggs.

Had been wondering why everything got eaten!

Used copper strips round the pots for a while, but that did nothing.  Egg shells, hopeless.  Refused to use the old toxic slug pellets.

Now, I have moved on to the latest generation of slug pellets.  Supposed to be harmless to pets and wildlife, and the slugs all take the pellets into dark damp places to die, so you aren't left with exploded slugs.

Works like a charm.

Because it is a walled garden, if I can get the population down early in the year, and keep it low, I hardly have any problems nowadays.

And I can testify that they do Shih Tzu no harm, cos Tara ate some.  The little cow was crunching them up like sweets.  She was about 5 months old.  No reaction.  No upset tum.  No problem.  So I use them with confidence now.

What is it you use for the slugs and snails. I won't use the blue pellets, what with the dogs and the tortoises...

Oh wow, yes I can see the flowers coming on your palm ?

Thank you!  I am not giving it enough attention at the mo :(

need to do a little every day, now that the evenings are longer.  Even 15 mins every day would make a huge difference :)

Haha!  LOTS of things are bigger than Cato!

I am delighted to report that the roses have softened in colour now.  Less orange, and more of the promised salmon pink.  No scent detected yet.  Still hoping.  They are supposed to be remarkably fragrant.
