WEDNESDAY 8th June: Training Dad

Crinkly

Cato:

Mum and Dad had a bit of a disagreement today.  Mum has a hurty place on her rear paw.  She is calling it a blister.  She got it on yesterday's walk.  So she couldn't come with us today, cos she needs her paw for the weekend, when she is going away :teary:  without us.:teary:  By herself. :teary:  For 2 days :yikes:

The disagreement was cos Mum thought it was too hot, and Dad didn't.

That meant we had to walk Dad by ourselves.  It is a lot of responsibility, you know.  We took him to the park with the PingPongPavillion, cos it is square and he can't get lost.  And then we ran about.  But it was a bit hot (not as hot as yesterday) and I had heard Mum telling him that if I went all hot and floppy, then he had to abandon his street cred and carry me home.

So I kind of HAD to, didn't I?  I mean, it was irris... irris... like the smell of dinner, when you are really hungry, and you can't keep away.

Dad took some pics of the park and us.

We did quite a lot of bouncing, as you can see

and LOTS of sniffing

We walked all the way round the outside under the trees

Tara:

This is me, in front, as always, with Cato lagging and crawling along behind, being all wimpy and floppy.

This was a FAB sniff

See, he is absolutely FINE here, setting off for more sniffage, and actually sneaking in front of ME for a bit!!!

and then, suddenly, it is like he can't walk any more.

Pathetic, isn't it?

So Dad - MY Dad - went back and carried him half way home.  Cos he is so diddy and wimpy and silly.   Whereas big strong fit me, walks home alongside my Dad.

And then we both had a lovely sleep on the nice cool floor.  Cato says he gets hotter than me, but I don't see how.  although he does take longer before he is ready to bounce again.

That is my lead.  The blue one wot Mum uses to tie me to her in the evenings so I can't go and bark in the garden when I am bored.

Isn't that MEAN of Mum?  It is only cos I am bored, when Cato is asleep, and Mum is talking to all you Aunties, and I have woken up after a nice long rest.  Barking is important, you know.  It is good for me.  Better than sleeping forever like slugs.  Like Cato does.

Thanks for all the Paw concern.  It is a very silly little blister, not really worth the name.  But it is in an odd place - just behind the ball of the foot, and I cannot find ANY footwear that doesn't rub it, or a plaster that doesn't rub off in seconds - and I am off to a conference at the weekend.  No idea how much walking I will be doing, so am trying to treat it gently. lol.

I think we need a different technique with Cato.

- can't stop him bouncing, and wouldn't want to

- can't stop him overheating himself, even with evening walks in the summer, because he is joyfully running around

- but I think we need to give him longer breaks mid-walk, and earlier in the walk, trying to pace him, because he CLEARLY doesn't pace himself.

And of course, the haircut tomorrow with help A LOT

Jo have you tried the peace & kindness spray on your blister? Seriously I use that on everything I get now and I swear it clears it up in a day, two max! Missy gives me the stink eye Everytime I steal it from her grooming table! :hysterical:

Please let us know what you find to help Cato. I haven't been able to walk Missy since the heat started... Stubborn girl Refuses to walk in the morning or evening when it's cooler and of course it's too hot to walk in the heat.. I'm at a loss and she desperately needs her walk! Poor Cato I sure hope your haircut helps sweetie! :)

He has never had good temperature regulation.  Even as a puppy.  And he gets the shivers if he goes too long between meals - always self inflicted, I hasten to add!  Tara is just so much more robust - but then he WAS the runt, and he weighs so much less.

They went for another walk with Dad today, but it is MUCH cooler, and they walked at Foxy Park which is v shady, and had a fab time.

Going to ask for a v short body clip this time, except for her increasingly shaggy topknot. :roflmao:

The puppy class lady said if you see them overheating, then pour water over their backs and down their necks and chests - but that isn't going to help you AT ALL with Missy's water phobia. :(

- Oh, and thanks for the P&K tip.  I would be doing that, if it had broken the skin, but it is just a tiny bubble atm.  Feel rather silly making a fuss.  Wouldn't normally have even taken any notice of it, if it wasn't the odd position (think I got a tiny grass seed inside my sandal strap, or something) and the fact I can't get a plaster on it.

The dogs think I am v odd.  But they are enjoying the fact I am walking barefoot.  Licky heaven.  The little monsters.
