Our New Bathroom

It's been a long build from scratch but happily we can say it's 99% finished and only a few minor extra's to add as we get time. Starting from scratch in a very, very old house is no joy...nothing is square and floors are never level...but hey you work with what you got.

The ugly green suite was installed by my hubby over 45 years ago and was still in complete working order but it didn't fit our needs any longer....plus washing the baby's was a back breaking effort in the tub and I won't even go into the slow immersion heater that took a hour to preheat just to have a hot water......Also we're to a age of arthritis and aches and pains which will increase with each year now so with that in mind we set about tearing out the old and inserting the new.

So I'll walk you through our efforts with pictures to show you the room I call S. P. A........(S)pa  for (P)ip  and (A)bby

A few photos beginning to today....

Pip and Abbys favorite spot to lie belly down....we added a few files of marble on the floor at the entrance ....so they can stay cool in summer and catch a breeze at the same time....they are very happen with this little extra for them.

What a beautiful room.  The two of you are very talented!  I'm very impressed.

You should have put warming coils under the belly cooling marble.......:-)

We put in ceramic tile that looks like wood in the first floor of out small cottage.  The center of the room (about 5 x 7) has heating coils under it - the dogs LOVE it in the winter time.

WOW what a Gorgeous bath you have, i Love that sink, tile and your colors! Thanks so much for sharing the pics of the before and work too. I know you'd mentioned that your tub had handles but I'd never seen one like that before!

What a lot of work you guys did, geez I can't even imagine tackling something like that, very impressed how talented you guys are! Love the marble area for Pip and Abby and am sure they are Very thankful! I gotta ask though what is the box thingy by the shower head, is that some sort of water heater? Am wondering too if you were able to change the water heating to be faster now? Absolutely can't wait to hear about the kids first bath in their new SPA!

The box is what you use when you don't have a hot water heater ( like in the States) or a boiler which is what most houses have here ......Hubby has a major phobia to natural gas and has never had it installed here.

So this box is what's called as a Electric Shower.

It's powered by electricity and heats on demand no matter how long you take a shower you never run out of hot water ....plus all it needs a Cold Water line. We have exceptional high pressure on the cold water line so I'm no longer slowed down by a pee stream coming out. :) Real good pressure.

Very economical when I use to have to heat water a whole hour before any of us bathed....if the second person or paw was next ......you had to wait another hour for more water to heat up and I was always running out of hot water before the bath as finished.......

Our's has a feature if we choose to push a button...that pumps air into the warm water coming out which is like a massage force....very nice on the back.

We really enjoying it and this weekend the paws can finally have that bath.

Do you have "on demand" water heaters at other places it's needed?  Kitchen sink, washing machine?

I have a friend with one on the kitchen sink with one that puts out water hot enough for tea etc.

I love it,  I'd really like to remodel our bathroom, but the DH is not what anyone would call "handy" and it would cost a fortune to have someone else do it.

Mosf everyone else in the country enjoys a boiler which supplies heating and hot water throughout the house, .....this house is the odd man out and old fashion due to hubby's gas phobia that's he's going to blow up....but adjoining houses on each side of us has gas...Go figure

For kitchen and the bathroom sink the old immersion heater is still intact if we choose to turn it on. Frankly I can't see heating it for a hour just to wash dishes and his washing machine is cold only.,,I checked lol

So for dishes I still boil the jug and use a dish pan.....For face which I just get some hot water out the shower and put it in the basin.....Totally backwards I know...:roflmao: But at least we can have a hot shower whenever we want and that I'm thankful.

We checked into a Zip and even a on demand kitchen sink boiler your friend has....Whoa..very expensive

Great looking bathroom.......it was a lot of work but now you can enjoy it........we purchased a rain head for our shower this year and I could just live in the shower now what a difference just a shower head makes. Do you have anymore home DIY plans in the near future?

It is never ending is it not.......we are having to replace our back porch steps and with this heat is taking Bill longer then I had hoped but in time they will be done. When we had our house built we just made do with standard wire shelving in the pantry so when we can no longer work outside we are going to redo the pantry area of our mud room......I think you mention before that your stairs are steep are you tearing them completely out and redoing them?

Oh I wish we could tear them out and start over..but alas they are make of all hard Yorkshire stone..no extending them either... only working with what we have and re carpet them  :(

Once we get back to work I'll take a picture before we lay down the new carpet runner to show you how houses with stairs were made in the good old days before modern machinery
