Yes indeed.

Cato thinks it is too hot to do ANYTHING except sit on my lap.

acting just like a little hot water bottle!

something wrong with his logic, eh?

:sunshine:Their logic sometimes makes no sense.........it was 96 here yesterday and Sophie pester me to let her out on the porch and she went right to the area the sun was shinning on and laid down on her side and took a nap........the house must have been to cold for the little bugger. Not for me.. just walking outside made you sweat.........the forecast here for the upcoming week is in the high 90's everyday and no rain......

Oh how I wish for rain.........for the past week all around us has been getting rain along with the thunder and lighting and we can see it from the house as it passes thru but we do not get a drop......it is like an umbrella is over our area.

Oh boy it's been hot here today. We had sports day at school. We had to change plans due to the weather, children sat under gazebos to stay out the sun until it was there time and race and even then we had to cut it short to two races. Wasn't enough room for staff to get in the shade, so I'm exhausted now.

Pip and Abby look like they're enjoying the rare sunshine we have had today.

Padme is the same way begging to go on a walk everyday but after five minutes shes panting but still wants to stay out and play just under a tree lol. she has a very thick double coat I can hardly get a glimpse of her skin when I try to spread her coat when I'm checking for ticks in fact I don't believe they'd be able to get to it either I have only found one on the outside of her fur but she doesn't have the gorgeous length your pups have just short and thick its crinkley too like zigzagged and crimped. Are other shih Tzu double coated or are they long single coated? I bet summer is so much harder for you guys you're all so dedicated to your lovely pooches taking all the extra time keeping them groomed and tangle free. I had a Persian cat once named mystic he quickly got the nickname lumpy :/ he got a little vicious when you tried to comb his belly. I know how much time it takes to get just one side done though and you guys have more than one pup too. that is love and dedication <3 Your pups are so lucky to have such great moms and dad's like you guys.

We are forecast high 20s (C) which is around 90 (F) today.  Which probably means it will be hotter.  I have noticed my thermometer is always a few degrees higher than the official claim...

poor little bugs.  all they are doing is sprawling.  Cato is particularly affected. :( but even Tara's bouncability is almost wiped.  I think it is because we just aren't used to it.  If it stayed like this for days and weeks we might have a chance of adjusting, but when it could drop to the 60s in a day or two, we never settle.

Mr C planned to take them out this morning for an early walk, but it was too hot for them at 8am!!!

Both mine refused food last night...it was just too hot and they were uncomfortable......So first thing this morning while it was not as hot,  I fed them their main meal ...chilled chicken breasts and peas....Now if they don't eat supper because of the heat then I won't be bothered ...They both were famished.

It never actually cooled down at later either....no air moving what  so ever....... My two were up and down trying to get comfortable but we never achieved it...even me.....Miserable.

Today could be life threatening to so many paws in the country...sure hope people use common sense.

Abby wants to lay around and do little activity ...Pip being silly like yesterday ....racing around, wanting to play and on cat patrol which he takes very seriously.... Panting like a mad paw, he's finally surcome to the heat at lunch time and sleeping now.

Ive already filled their bowl three times with cold water as they are more thirsty than usual....I did spare a thought for dogs home alone while their parents work...I pray for those paws today.

They predict two days on the mid 80's and then cooling back down...Can't come soon enough for me.

Sure hope Cato does as little as possiable today. I think he is a lot like Abby, who has a very short pallet and extremely small nostrils so she can't move air as efficient while panting....She really feels the heat first and sleeps most of the day.

Yes.  We always know when Cato is struggling, because the tone and rhythm of his panting changes.  It becomes a little desperate.  At the moment (thankfully) all they want to do is sprawl.  And so long as they stay inactive and calm, they will be fine. :)

The puppy class lady used to recommend wetting them down, particularly shoulders, chest and neck, because the evaporating water has a cooling effect.

Of course, doing that to my two runs the risk of them doing the AfterBathFrenziedRunaround, :compress: but I may pour a little over them later.

I'm dreading hearing some horror story on the news where some idiot left their dog in a car or something.

Oooo Padme your mommie asks a hard complicated question :roflmao: I hope I can find the right words to answer her questions. :blush-anim-cl: I don't know much about Poms...but Pam our breeder and groomer on here can fill you in on those.

By your introduction I know Padme is Chihuahua, Shih Tzu, Pom Cross. So to begin I will completely ignor the Chihuahua as it doesn't come into the hair mix.........yet.

Shes got a double gene dose of Pom and Shih Tzu combined..which can mean a thick dense undercoat. She's also in her puppy coat which means it's thick, dense and fluffy but this won't be her adult cost.

It's a toss up what her adult cost will look like and what color she will end up being...coat color changes many times till they are adults in Shih Tzu's. Don't confused the dense downy undercoat with the long guard hairs...totally different. The undercoat suppose to be short and thick and will break off regularity keeping it short....so the need for daily comb outs to remove dead hair from falling back into the coat and causing tangles and mats is a must. A Shih Tzu suppose to have a thick fine downy undercoat and over that straight flowing guard hairs....This varies vastly by breeding...... Her adult long hair..... if she's capable of growing it will come in much later on.

You mentioned crimped hair...pray she doesn't retain those...That's bad genetic's.....Abby has that on her legs and her tail...a nightmare to keep tangle free and daily comb outs are a must. If she will be clipped short regularly then it won't be as bothersome.

Wow that is complicated lol. Honestly I feel like Padme looks like how if you shaved a shih tzu or pom to about 1/2 an inch as if it's supposed to be long but isn't lol. although she has been losing alot of fur lately some in some places and alot in others.  some places are getting longer though I know with long haired chis it takes two years to get their long coat and then it stops growing however from what I read about shih tzus which obviously you all know tee hee is their hair will keep growing like ours does. I really want Padme to have a long coat but I'll be happy as long as she's healthy. She definitely has hair growing in her ears but they've just started growing so they are short but they grow in the canal too what's your guys stance on plucking? Padme seems to be growing in a different coat the single straight long hairs are growing longer but she still has the thick fluffy stuff on her head and neck.  what's odd is the fluffy fur on her head is as long as the long straight hair on the rest of her but that fluffy hair on her back is the crimped hair and what I mean by that is she has her thin long straight hairs then next to it is the zigzaggy hair that's short compared to the straight hair and it looks pushed down and fluffy like a cob web lol. the first pic is the cob webby crimped hair the other two are the hairs growing that are long and straight. also the hair between her toes on the pad of her feet are growing long partly covering the pad do I need to cut it?

it also comes out in small clumps if I barely barely tug. she had something in her fur and I tried to get it with my finger nails and instead of the little piece of lint I got a clump of fur. she didn't show any sign of pain she stayed sleeping but is that normal? Sorry for bombarding you with questions on your post   :(

Never fear asking a ton questions, the only bad question is one that is never asked........ That's why we all love this site...we can ask as much as we want and someone somewhere usually knows the answer or steers us the the right direction for a solution. .....Our Admin Luna  (Pam) is invaluable help when we are scratching our heads and have hard questions....she's a breeder, a professional groomer and shows dog participant  with over 40 yrs experience...I'm hoping she will drop by and help us out here when she has time....especially with the Pom gene.

Now, getting back to your questions. Ear Plucking...I don't do it and never will...If it ain't broken, don't fix it motto. I trim with baby blunt end Scissor's to keep it shortish but never pluck. My view is plucking can irritate and lead to ear infection in some paws. I had it done to Pip once when I didn't know better...it caused him to be head shy....fight and bite whenever I tried to mess with his ears or groom his face..took me months to earn his trust  and not react.....note:  groomer did admit it took two of them to forcefully hold him down when he was only a wee puppy to do this, so it caused him pain I suspect. Letting it grow naturally if it causes the paw no problems is better for me, the longer hair naturally wicks away the wax to the outside which then can be cleaned with a baby wipe off the hair. Also when I clip his face I take a shorter swipe straight down the jowl from the canal....this  is hidden when his ears lay down.....this allows air to circulate.

Abby being a junk yard dog is another story. When I got her at a year old her ears were impacted with dirt from being kept outside in all weathers. While she under anesthesia  for spaying....I had her ears plucked and cleaned and luckily so since the dirt was causing a deep infection...Her canal always has a lot of hair but No Pluck for her either...Again her's is kept short, wax is wicked away and she has had no problems what so ever being hairier inside.

Paw Pad Hair

You'll find a video on that from the previous link of video's. It must be clipped at least every month or sooner according to how fast it grows. If allowed to grow out of control Padme will loose traction and you'll see him slipping and sliding on the hard floor...The bare paw pad needs to be touching the ground without any hair obstructing it....or leg and ligaments csn be torn during running, playing or jumping. Also the long hair has a tendency to ball up between the paw pads causing a tight painful mat to develop...can't stress enough to keep that cleaned out with a small clipper or scissor and level off the length around the outside of the foot....that's all covered on the video.

Now that hair question

From the pictures you shared I can see hair patches which look like Pom, Tzu and Chihuahua all intermixed in areas. This saying I'm concerned when you say her hair comes out in clumps when slightly tugged..that's not normal for either of the three. The cause needs to be addressed by a vet during her check up. MissyDawn has a long hair Chi which looses great sections of hair down to the skin which is internally allergy related. She has hers on Krill Oil and she now has re grown thick healthy hair again......have your vet check for any skin allergys.

I also ask what food she's on? Has it been changed recently? ...Reason I ask is skin issues stem from a reaction within her to certain grains or ingredients within inferior ingredients.

Case in point on the importance of food stuffs....Abby came to me on a cheaper than cheap dry dog food..it was rubbish not fit for paw consumption....all filler and no nutrition. She had areas behind her ears and her hind quarter with this kind of hair that looked like up dryer lint....it didn't even resemble hair in places. I put her on home cooking and over a few month all the old  hair fell out and regrowth was straight healthy hair...she's now in full coat. Hair growth is determined by genetic's...you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear but with good quality, grainfree food you enable Padme to grow the best coat his genetic's will allow. It doesn't happen over night but you can turn around bad hair from the lack of vitamins and minerals her body needs to grow it.

Missy has been allergy tested and aside from being allergic to EVERYTHING outside, and takes allergy injections, she can't have a food that contains pecans, turkey, eggs, beef, corn ,  also corn in ANY form, or peanuts. so yes, she's on a food without any of these ingredients.

I did recently change her food but it was changed to something natural with natural ingredients and real meat as the first ingredient and you can see the chunks of meat however she was on a grain and corn yucky diet before. I don't live near pet smart only a food lion so it took longer than I hoped to get to petsmart to get her the usual natural food diet we use. it also seems like all her fluff is coming out and her shorter hair is staying but with the wisps of long hair here and there its staying long at her ruff and chest and too of her head. could she be losing puppy hair? I didn't think that'd happen until later she's around 10-11 weeks now. I'll definitely be sure to groom the paw pad hair thanks for letting me know and I'm so relieved I won't have to pluck her ears I know how much it hurts to do eyebrows I can't imagine ears so when I read you're supposed to with poodles and tzus I worried then I saw it was a debated subject most thought plucking actually caused infections rather than preventing them. She finally got comfortable enough to let me wipe hers out and it wasn't a moment too soon they looked clean but smelled but since I wiped them clean there is no smell. After giving her a bath she lost alot of lose fur and it looked thinner but still feels really thick it was the fluff that washed off I was hoping it'd stay though. She seemed really happy after her bath although she hated the bath itself but her coat seemed shinier she seemed cooler and more comfortable. It is over 90 degrees here though so maybe that's why??

I appreciate everyone's help and I'm glad my questions won't annoy anyone :thumb:
