Making Changes

Well it's day 1 for a healthier me..... Journey to lower my cholesterol, lower blood pressure, lose pounds and stop smoking. That's a lot isnt it....hope to look back in the coming months and say it was all worth it.

Started last night sipping cinnamon tea instead of coffee..Good for arthritis inflammation ....... I'm a die hard all day long coffee-holic and this isn't going to be easy so let's see how bad the withdrawal is going to be this time around .....I've done this before and the first three days are the worst with headaches from hell and crankiness. :noway:

Started the morning off and replaced coffee with Chaomine Tea and a tsp of honey...very soothing. Cooked breakfast for the hounds and hubby...I didn't even miss the toast and eggs I usually have. Last night I made the oatmeal yogurt recipe everyone is talking about..Now that isnt half bad if you have never made it......Layered oatmeal, Greek no fat yogurt, blueberrys, 2 tsp applesauce, one sliced banana, drizzle of honey, flax seeds and soy no fat milk..covered and refrigerated over night. Breakfast felt like I was cheating.......yummy surprises of cool fruit and a hint of sweetness from the honey. I actually enjoyed it very much and will play around with the fruit combo so I don't get bored with it.

Mid morning I was getting antsy from sugar and caffeine withdrawal. So off the kitchen armed with new recipes I've found on Pinderest. I baked 9 oatmeal, banana and applesauce muffins...I don't know who loved them better...me or Pip....Abby refused.

I wasn't hungry at 4 but the pups were gathering for their 3:30 stare telling me it was time for supper....wasnt as hard as I imagined cooking theirs, hubby's  and mine so it all come up at the same time...Baby steps I kept it simple. Paws has boiled chicken breasts and veg, hubby had  chicken tikka and a baked potato. I had vegetarian...sweet potato, Brussel sprouts and 1 oat cake. Best thing is I don't feel bloated like I usually do after a meal.

End of day one and I haven't snapped nobody's head off yet ...not nervous but a little anxious ...hoping for a good nights sleep and start my day 2.

Must remember to weigh and log down weight tomarrow morning...slipped up and forgot ,

:clap:Good News. It is funny how your body reacts to changes.......I mention that we no longer go out to eat due to Bills stomach issues and it has been quite awhile and one day I said can we just get something I don't want to cook today.......So for lunch we had Burgers, fries, onion rings and a milk shake.........OMG I never felt so miserable plus so did Bill but I won't go there on his issue........so we are back to eating 100% home cooked. Keep up the good work and great to know that your experiencing less pain now that your off the meds.

I had my medical review today and got my results. All good

Triglycerides a little high but excellent good levels, BP and weight excellent.

We had the discussion that I was now off Statin's due to the bad side affects which she noted throughly, I asked to have blood tested every 6 months not 12 months so we can monitor cholesterol levels on the new diet so we stayed on track and make adjustments if necessary. She accepted my decision once she learned I knew what I was talking about with my diet and health and wasn't going to take BS from them anymore nor Statin's.

Kidney function number was back to normal ...previous results was a mistake.

Signed a share consent form and altered my web site so I can now view my own results on all tests past and present.

She encouraged me to make a doctors appointment soon as possiable for my back and hip since its been going on 2 hrs now and getting worse...But she couldn't do anything for me today.....So next Thursday I return to see the quack and see what he can do for me.

Happy with my results today

It seems Statin related pain is gone from my body now.

One thing I did notice was if your on them and have these side affects ....any place that is injured or had previous surgery years before is more painful, also arthritis related pain is 10 fold more agony.

I have a old site where my shoulder ligament was re attached to the bone, which was done over 13 years ago!!! ...the site flared up and began hurting again while on statin but once out of my system the pain has disappeared.......My last surgery site which was done a year ago started hurting while standing...just like it was when I came out the hospital, thankfully  that pain has now stopped. They do weird things to your body that drug.

Ive been in so much pain that I couldn't bear the thought of washing the dogs much less doing a full groom day on them standing up....I honestly didn't know what I was going to do about it except pay someone to it..... now I'm planning a spa day this weekend...Im glad I'm getting back to normal

Week and a half and I'm still on my healthy eating diet. Not really fair to call it a diet because I'm not hungry or feel deprived like other diets so it's been very easy and actually exciting trying out new recipes...I look forward to meal time now.

Veggie's make up a huge part of my meals which I have found delicious as well as nutritious...No even missed the meatless meals yet..

Today I'd like to highlight a particular yogart I have been using. It's thick like sour cream and not tart at all like a previous brand I was using. Brand name Fage Total 0%. Full of the good bits and they left out the bad stuff you see in many on the shelves..like high sugar and fat. I don't know if it's available in the the US or other countries but I'm sure your country has a equivanat to it.

I use it in cooking to make sauces, glazes, or just layered with fresh fruit, oatmeal, honey and nuts for pretty layered lunch or even breakfast. Really recommend this brand if you love yogurt

Small squash that's very versatile. Prick and zap in the microwave for 3 mins....makes the hard shell softer for peeling. After peeling it can be cut into cubes, strips for fries, purée for cakes, pancakes and other baking.

Haha!  I love that stuff - but I go for the full fat one.

I eat low carb, so the 0% fat one is too carby for me, and the full fat (10% fat, I think) is perfect.

- love it with berries

Yes you soften the whole squash before peeling off the hard outter skin...peel it like a potatoe or any root veg. My first peeling was scarey cause the squash is real hard and with a sharp knife in hand on a uneven veg. ...

But in the meantime I learnt prick and microwave idea so it softened that outter skin....then you can peel without struggling. Cut the long neck off and clean out the seed from the lower bowl...slice and bake the French fries.

Last night I made a chunky version with cinnamon, spray oil, sea salt ...OMG, thought I was eating desert it was so good.

Ive been saving tons of recipes as they strike my fancy...I've made my diet fun and yummy too. Tomarrow I'm making a sugar free honey banana nut bread to use up bananas...

That's the beauty....come on over. All recipes I save fall into the catogory...lower my blood pressure, lower my Chlorestrol, cut out fat and refined sugars and lose weight.

If you like hot drinks.....Buy cinnamon sticks. Break one up into small pieces and add 2 cups hot water in a small pot.... Being to boil for 3 minutes, then simmer for additional 20 mins. I use one artificial sweetner because I like sweet but you could use honey too of desired. Smells heavenly in the house simmering too

Cinnamon is proven to lower high  blood pressure

Cinnamon Roasted Butternut Squash Recipe

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 large butternut squash, peeled/seeded and cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 3 TB olive oil
  • 2 TB packed brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper

DIRECTIONS
  1. Preheat oven to 425F with rack on upper middle position. Line baking sheet with heavy duty foil.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the squash with remaining ingredients until thoroughly coated. Transfer to foil-lined baking sheet, in a single layer, without overcrowding the pieces.
  3. Roast about 40 minutes, rotating pan midway during baking. When edges are browned and cubes are fork-tender, remove from oven immediately. You may want to start checking squash around 35 minutes, just to ensure that they don't become overcooked.
