Making Changes

Well it's day 1 for a healthier me..... Journey to lower my cholesterol, lower blood pressure, lose pounds and stop smoking. That's a lot isnt it....hope to look back in the coming months and say it was all worth it.

Started last night sipping cinnamon tea instead of coffee..Good for arthritis inflammation ....... I'm a die hard all day long coffee-holic and this isn't going to be easy so let's see how bad the withdrawal is going to be this time around .....I've done this before and the first three days are the worst with headaches from hell and crankiness. :noway:

Started the morning off and replaced coffee with Chaomine Tea and a tsp of honey...very soothing. Cooked breakfast for the hounds and hubby...I didn't even miss the toast and eggs I usually have. Last night I made the oatmeal yogurt recipe everyone is talking about..Now that isnt half bad if you have never made it......Layered oatmeal, Greek no fat yogurt, blueberrys, 2 tsp applesauce, one sliced banana, drizzle of honey, flax seeds and soy no fat milk..covered and refrigerated over night. Breakfast felt like I was cheating.......yummy surprises of cool fruit and a hint of sweetness from the honey. I actually enjoyed it very much and will play around with the fruit combo so I don't get bored with it.

Mid morning I was getting antsy from sugar and caffeine withdrawal. So off the kitchen armed with new recipes I've found on Pinderest. I baked 9 oatmeal, banana and applesauce muffins...I don't know who loved them better...me or Pip....Abby refused.

I wasn't hungry at 4 but the pups were gathering for their 3:30 stare telling me it was time for supper....wasnt as hard as I imagined cooking theirs, hubby's  and mine so it all come up at the same time...Baby steps I kept it simple. Paws has boiled chicken breasts and veg, hubby had  chicken tikka and a baked potato. I had vegetarian...sweet potato, Brussel sprouts and 1 oat cake. Best thing is I don't feel bloated like I usually do after a meal.

End of day one and I haven't snapped nobody's head off yet ...not nervous but a little anxious ...hoping for a good nights sleep and start my day 2.

Must remember to weigh and log down weight tomarrow morning...slipped up and forgot ,

So glad your making this FUN.........you will tend to stick with it for sure.  Be sure to request the Air Fryer for your Bday. I use mine just about everyday. Plus years ago I was watching a infomercial about a cooking pan called the Turbo Cooker and I bought one and love it........it steams your veggies or other food items in half the time on the stove.....I will cut up cauliflower, broccoli, mushrooms and sweet potatoes and place in the pan and steam them and yummy is all I can say...........Here is something you might want to try to season your veggies or meats for a change of flavor once in awhile...........Herbed Salt

1/4 cup dried parsley, 2 Tablespoons dried basil, 1 Tablespoon dried marjoram or oregano, 1 teaspoon paprika, 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme, and 1 cup unrefined sea salt.........place all ingredients in blender or food processor and blend enough to combine all ingredients. Store in air tight jar ..........

Morton has a new product called Garlic Sea Salt (sea salt, garlic and parsley and no MSG) this stuff is wonderful.........I grilled some shrimp and added this product and Bill said it was the best shrimp and I said what is so different about it I have made it before and you never raved about it.......he said something was different about the flavor.......then I told him I added the new Morton product..........Garlic is another good source of adding to your health.....I have read that you should have it everyday in some form or other.  Keep up the good work........you have two paws that depend on you and the hubby.

I make my own......take a garlic bulb and peel away the loose paper skin........wrap in foil and roast in oven at 375 for about 20 minutes or until soft.........take and break away each section squeeze out the garlic  and mash with a bit of olive oil (enough to make a paste) a pinch of salt (optional) spread on crackers or French baguette..........beware you will have garlic breath for days............

Week and a half and I'm still on my healthy eating diet. Not really fair to call it a diet because I'm not hungry or feel deprived like other diets so it's been very easy and actually exciting trying out new recipes...I look forward to meal time now.

Veggie's make up a huge part of my meals which I have found delicious as well as nutritious...No even missed the meatless meals yet..

Today I'd like to highlight a particular yogart I have been using. It's thick like sour cream and not tart at all like a previous brand I was using. Brand name Fage Total 0%. Full of the good bits and they left out the bad stuff you see in many on the shelves..like high sugar and fat. I don't know if it's available in the the US or other countries but I'm sure your country has a equivanat to it.

I use it in cooking to make sauces, glazes, or just layered with fresh fruit, oatmeal, honey and nuts for pretty layered lunch or even breakfast. Really recommend this brand if you love yogurt

Thanks for asking. Pretty slow...dropped 10 lbs then stalled. Still sticking with the diet though...actually haven't missed meat that much. When I do it's boiled white chicken breast and only a palm full...

Decided I better run a update since it's been awhile.

I'm still on a watch what I eat diet and remain steady....my scales died......so I have no way of knowing my loss or gains at this time.

Cold wet weather has me in constant pain from arthritis and mobility is very poor in my feet....My back has been helped by the purchase of a wide support belt that I wear when doing full groom days...England isn't nice to arthritis sufferers but I plow on

I have gotten good results from vitamin D supplements for lack of sunshine depression...two weeks into them I felt much better

I'm into my second week of cold turkey ....No cigs. (Not saying I'm a non smoker yet...early days.)

Hubbys heart health is in a downward spiral and spends a lot of time in bed.......2017 doesn't look good for him

So when you see me here and I'm quite....don't worry that's just how I handle stress ...I have a lot on my plate......

You all are a huge part of my day and lift my spirts when life gets dark and I need a laugh...Love You All  ❤️

If I can do anything to help, just shout. Even if it's just my ear you need to bend... ?You're always here for me.

I too am seeing good results with the vitamin D and K something or other that Jo told me about. I actually feel a lot brighter in myself. Still not 100% but think I'll always be like that this time of year.
