FRIDAY 29 July: Catflap Dramas

Crinkly

Tara:

I hate it.  It is scary.  I hate it.

Mum lets me out through the door sometimes (Mum: first thing in morning, and last thing at night) and then she makes me use IT the rest of the time.

Yesterday was HORRIBLE.  She made me sit outside the catflap looking in all morning (Mum: 20 mins) and tortured me with treats (Mum: a calcium bone treat on the floor 2 feet inside the catflap), and it was raining! (Mum: the catflap is positioned under the roof overhang, and did not get wet).

Then when I actually managed to be brave and clever and everything, and came in for my treat (Mum: motivation is an amazing thing), she kept me prisoner all day, til Dad came home and let me out for a wee. (Mum: catflap was tied open ALL DAY, and Tara refused to use it.  Dad came home, and like the well trained Dad he is, he opened the door for her, before I could explain the situation)  I was nearly busting with wee.  It woz the biggest wee EVER EVER EVER.

And now Mum did the same horrible mean THIS morning, making me sit outside and rest my chin in the catflap tunnel and feel sad and unloved.  Only today the catflap woz a bit less horrible-scary, and I came in after ages, not ages and ages and ages (Mum: just 3 mins today, so hopefully things are improving.  wish I could have got a pic of her pathetic little face and sprout staring in like a lost soul.  Silly widget.  When she made it in through the Torture Device Catflap she got a huge fuss, congratulations and encouragement, but no treat today.  I am not starting a treat for catflap use tradition.  That would lead to disaster!!! :roflmao:.  I wonder if we will ever know what started this little crisis off?)

Cato:

You know, the older I get, the more I think I would have got on with Sidney.

Poor Tara, you certainly got us all perplexed what the problem is with the torture device. Sure hope what ever it is passes soon.

Cato- you don't have a problem with it do you? Show sister she's just being silly.

:sad?: Silly question...but this started right after coming home from Auntie's house....by chance does she have a cat flap in her door and possiable the "something" scared her there?   Yeah I'm reaching here :) Just got me baffled too

Now that is interesting (says Mum), hadn't made that connection!

They don't have a catflap, but she may have had an experience going in and out of their door or something.  They have one front, a back, and a conservatory door, and they keep all their inner doors shut to control dog access to different rooms...

You may well be on to something there...

Hopefully her goldfish memory will wipe the trauma away in a day or two. :roflmao:

Lacey, Oh no that sounds terrible. We don't have a catflap. But do you know what! if we did, my Mummy would of done exactly the same .... I think you are like myself - too posh for a cat flap...

Hope you can overcome it all, and show them you can use it...

Goldfish memory.........giggle.  Even Carp learn to come to a hand feeding at the edge of a pond.

I would have done it the same way...........Dad's are always the one to muck up progress in training.

She seems happy to bounce through in her usual state of over enthusiasm, chasing Cato, or bustling in because she heard the front door.

But if she is by herself and has time to think (ok, maybe the word 'think' is a bit of an exaggeration), then she hesitates and doesn't want to come in through the catflap.

but the hesitations are gradually getting shorter...

... and then last night we had a MAJOR relapse.

Sigh.

Dad 'posted' her through the catflap to go out for a wee mid afternoon yesterday, and since then she has reverted to major Tizz.

Last night I had to 'post' her out again (which  is when I realised how much a Tizz it was making for her), she widdled, then she sat outside in the dark for 20 mins. pathetically staring in, while I sat on the floor in the kitchen playing with Cato, giving him treats, and trying to lure her in with treats.

In the end I went and sat with Cato in the front room, turned the kitchen lights off, and pretended we had left.

2 mins later she was in, but I heard the wildly panicked scrabble, and the hysterical skitter on the kitchen floor as she did so,  so setting up THAT situation may have done the situation more harm than good. :(

Today, I try a new tack.  I am going to re-design the step they use to reach the catflap.  From what I heard last night, she tried to leap from the catflap rim over the step, and onto the tiles, so it maybe the step itself that has scared her.  I will also check it for splinters, in case it has stabbed her foot or something.  There aren't any obvious signs, but I will go over it carefully.

Hey Tara girlfriend, Missy here- I'm with ya girlfriend what's with these people anyway don't they know this cat flap thingy will Totally mess up your sprout?!! What's sooo mysterious about a girl just wanting to look like the princess she is?!! Honestly I just don't understand people sometimes! :salute: Hope your mom gets rid of that thing soon, I'm in your corner and here for ya girlfriend! :throb:Missy

good idea on looking at the step Jo, any chance it could have moved on her? Have had that happen with Missy, if something that she jumps on moves on her, she has avoided it for the longest time till she's sure I've 'adequately' fixed it for her! Also you mentioned she lands on tiles, could she have slipped or slid on those? Any chance of putting a small towel or rug there for a time to see if that helps?

Well, I have put a non slip mat under the step, and checked for rocking.

- nearly died of a heart attack in the process when the spider attacked -

Turned out the step was rocking, and making a noise, but that has now stopped.  But of course she is refusing to go on it at the moment.  Will play a waiting game.

Tara:

I just CAN'T!!! (Mum: this is the new, non rocking set up, but she still won't set foot on the inside step.  The outside one is no problem at all...)

Cato:

I can't see wot all the fuss is about.

Wild out there thought.....

You know the hinge at the top that the flap swings on....Is her top knot hair getting caught in the hinge area possiable so it pulled a stay hair or as she pushes through it causing the whole knot to pull  at the scalp???

Wish I knew what it was Tara darling.

Tara, you will get used to that old stinky cat flap and you'll be moving in and out with ease in no time.  You have your Mum and Cato to help you out.  Love your sprouts in that pic too!
