Tara:

:( Mum said we would have a big walk today.  I wanted to do Holiday Mountaineering Training.  But it is all wet and soggy and horrible.  Dad tried to make me go out to the bin with him, but I wouldn't.  I stood in the door and watched him get wet!  Hahaha!

Cato:

:( No walk today.  We were going to have an extra long sniffy walk with Mum.  She said so.  But now I am snoozing all day instead. :(

Maybe tomorrow, with AuntieJane?

Mum:

:( no walking today.  And Dad got called into work early, so they are missing him too.

Oh well, at least you can see how clean my windows are... :judy:

:rain:Please send some of that wet stuff my way........we were teased with rain two weeks ago and have had nothing since......and everything is getting crispy......I think in my next life I am coming back as a weather person......never saw a job placement where you could predict the weather and 9 times out of 10 your wrong and are still able to keep your job and get paid. Middle of the week looking at the forecast just praying for this heat to break it was reported that we would be in the 80's next week.......a cold spell that I was so looking forward too......but this morning the report is back up in the 90's again and no rain to speak of.......It was refreshing to look out your window Jo....I could almost feel the drops.

Yes, we are due more high temperatures next week.  Oh well, at least all the plants will have had a good drenching today.

(it rained solidly til late afternoon).

However, in other news... ah.  Tara wants to tell you herself:

Tara:

Hallo Aunties!!!   My PURPLE stuff arrived today!  MrsWetPostman brought it!  I have a PURPLE collar, and a PURPLE lead, and a BLUE pendant, and a Name Badge, and they will go with my new PURPLE flower head thing.

I'm going to wear them ALL tomorrow to show AuntieJane.

I am SOOOOO excited.

Should I have one sprout, or two, do you think?  I can't decide!!!

Thank you!

i'm so NOT a lacey frilly kind of person, but THIS house, and THIS bay window make it a necessity.  And i love 'em too.

i spent hours on the internet looking for genuine b&w pics of Edwardian bay window dressings, and then did a modern 'take'.  Lol.  Sorry if that was too much info! :roflmao:

I'm sorry you two didn't get to take a walk.  At least, your Mum's plants are loving the rain.

I can't wait to see you in all your purple refinery, Tara.

Me too....not a lacey, ruffly person.  But our little beach cottage has a ridiculous window in the master bedroom.  Besides just a big rectangular window there is a large 1/2 circle window above it.  It's a very pretty situation but NOT in the bedroom. It took me a LONG time to figure out what to do  -  from the outside I know it doesn't look great but indoors I covered the 1/2 circle window with foil (yes foil to block out the light) and then white butcher paper cut to fit over that.  I found a pleated shade fan in in an antique store to cover the white butcher paper.  So now it's basically a white window that disappears from attention.  Above it and partially covering it are 5 sheer white loopy valances held in place with white starfish.........I know - hard to picture right?   Over the big window are dark 2 inch blinds with white flowing sheers at either side.

Nice and dark for sleeping but white and wispy looking when the breeze blows in and rustles the shears.

First pic is an example of the window(s) though ours is wider.

Next is an example of a pleated fan that fits in the half circle.  I found mine in an antique store for $8.  It didn't quite fit (a little too small) but because I had put white butcher paper under it, it wasn't noticeable.

Then are my actual windows........poor quality I know but hopefully you can get an idea.

The dried starfish are very light (available in any tourist trap on the coast) and are "nailed" into the wall with straight pins  -  the valances too.

In any other room in the house I would have left the 1/2 circle uncovered.......I love all the light I can get - but not in the bedroom at 5AM

The funny thing is.....when I was searching all over the place for what to do I saw those sheers with valances in RED!   I had to stop and look when I wanted to go right by and visualize them in white.  $$$ was an issue  -  this is a vacation home and I just didn't want to spend a lot on the windows. Most of the other window coverings I made myself.

Even the decorator in the carpet and window coverings store said "why in the world would a contractor put a window like that in a bedroom!  They are so hard to cover and look better bare!"
