Lamb hearts YUM

Cato:

So Mum woz doing lamb hearts tonight for our tea.

She stood chopping them up for AGES.  They have these lovely chewy pipe things on the top end, and Mum was cutting them off and throwing them for us.  I was good and sat on the rug, like I am supposed to, and Tara was almost good and sat closer, near the water bowl.  So I got extra bits, and Tara didn't :)  until she came and sat with me, then we got the same amount of bits. :)

Then, at the end, we each had a nice big juicy bit of lovely bloody chewy heart.

All the rest went into Mum's slow cooker thing :( with veg stuff and wine stuff.  But she says that if we are good we will get a bit of cooked heart when it is all hotted and finished.

Lamb hearts are very very yummy.

Mum likes them too.  And Dad.  But I like them best!

Hmmmmm - lamb hearts.  Never ever seen them in grocery stores.  Are they commonly eaten there?

Sophie and Shorty would be jealous........they get beef heart and I use thinly sliced chicken hearts for training treats.  Yesterday they got a whole chicken done in the crockpot for them.....but no lamb hearts.  I'm never going to hear the end of this if they find out.

Sorry @Marlene.

i was sure I had answered your question - but it has disappeared! :cheezy:

so, i dont think lamb hearts are all that popular, but they are very inexpensive!  And there are some great recipes for stuffed or stewed hearts.  They are lovely after a slow cook.

they have a lovely flavour and we all four all love them!

I try and do some kind of offal (heart, kidney, liver) once a week or so.  They are soooo nutritious!

tend to do chicken liver with red wine and rosemary, the heart replaces goat/lamb in a curry, and the kidneys sometimes at breakfast (but they arent as much of a favourite, so they often get pureed into gravy.  Those and fish a couple of times a week, and i think we have a nice variety... :roflmao:

We do a similar thing.  Beef twice a week (often it's beef heart) Chicken twice a week, Fish once, eggs once and awful offal once.  Along with a variety of veggies and fruit.  I feed part premium kibble which I rotate - none of my dogs have had a problem switching over (probably because they eat a wide variety anyway).  Also in an emergency I don't want their food to be an ordeal for someone to care for them.

HAHA!  I was talking about us eating that variety - although, the mutts do always always have some of what we are eating, even if it is only a small part rinsed in water and then chopped up over the rest of their frozen dinner.

I think because mine eat Raw in 4-5 different flavours (beef, lamb, venison, chicken, tripe, each with veg mixed in) and we switch flavours every few meals, they are basically used to constant changes.  Add in the toppers (blueberries, apple, cheese, our human dinners, bone broth, sausage, burger or steak bits) and they will eat just about ANYTHING.  Although Cato is always a bit suspicious of the fish. :roflmao: Tinned fish sometimes gets rejected.

It is very hard to recall the times when he turned his nose up at meal after meal... especially now I have shrunk the portions, and change flavours so often.
