  1. Piper.....your story is a lot like Shorty's. I was flabbergasted when my husband said "let's keep him". Welcome to the world of foster failures! I'm even worse than that.......I'm a transport failure. Shorty never made it to a foster home.

  21. You may remember both my dogs were sick over New Years. Started with a day of vomiting and then the diarrhea started which lasted about 5 days. Not fun - but they couldn't help it. When it was over.....Shorty just didn't seem to feel well. He didn't want to move, was eating but not pooping. So next thought was he had a blockage or his bowel was just completely empty and the food hadn't worked it's way down. Took him to the vet, she did an x-ray and saw no blockage but did see a lot of gas in his GI tract. He yelped when she picked him up to take him for the x-ray. She said she saw a na

  22. Thanks All! Knowing you all appreciate the situation is very reassuring! Forgot to say earlier, vet left a note asking us to pop in for an appt either tomorrow or the next day, my choice when, depending on how he is. So I can ask about the antiBs then, also if he needs any more, to follow up (they gave a long lasting injection, but no tablets, so may need some). And now (because you can't keep her quiet for long) here is a note from Tara: Tara: Oh Aunties! It woz AWFUL! Cato went away, and I didn't know where he had gone, and I couldn't try and steal his food, and I cou

  23. Thank you both! We are home, and he seems every so pleased to be back. lol. Didn't ask what the antiBs are. Only saw a nurse, not the vet because she was in surgery operating. He was overjoyed, and Tara knew he was coming back to us for ages before he was carried in. (v amused, both last night and this morning, that vet staff don't actually seem to be able to put him down on the table. They just want to cuddle his Awesome Gorgeousness, icky bottom and all. hahaha! it is like they can't help themselves. Anyway, they want him to eat, but he's showing no interest. And he ha

  30. Glad everything is ok! Scary. You're so right, Recall is the probably one of the most important commands. I've been focusing on that with Buddy using high-value treats Mostly to keep him near me in the house so he isn't pooping in the corner or chewing a wire, but you make good point about outdoors as well.

Not to mention hooman bean, birds and other critters could bonk right into those windows without noseprint and pawprint art to warn them there is an invisible barrier there. Start off gathering your materials.........coat your paws with mud and soak your face with water. In fact, get as wet as you can.......all over and then approach a window and shake vigorously! This will make a nice subtle background for the nos

  34. Hi All, PipsMom suggested I do an Old Bones Entry on what it is like being Type 2 diabetic. so here goes. I suppose first I should explain that there are different types of D: Type 1 is usually sudden onset, dramatic, and requires insulin injections to stay alive. Can happen at any age, but most often seen in children and young people. They need to inject several times daily to prevent high blood glucose, which would kill them in time. Type 2 is the most common. Usually happens in adult hood. Starts off being controlled by diet and exercise, then as the condition worsens,

I slept in the guest room with him........somewhere in the middle of the night I was aware he had moved away from me. A few minutes later he was back up snuggling under my chin and patting my face with his fat pink paw pads. Uh oh.........I smell something. Go into the bathroom, turn on the light and have puppy poop smears on my face. So, at 3:30 AM I'm washing my face, washing the puppy's paws and flinging the

  39. My husband once had a cat who's favorite night-time game was to take a golf ball to the top of the stairs and drop it, then watch it roll down the steps (making a nice satisfying "thump" as it hit each one). He would do this until he would get out of bed, at which point kitty and golf ball were nowhere to be found. Then, just as he was falling back asleep it would start-up again. Took him weeks to actually LOCATE the golf ball and get rid of it. After that, kitty would leave a "gift" for him by the bedroom door every night...

  42. Sooo... we arrived home just now, to be greeted by a very chillaxed cat, empty bowls, and a switched on computer. then I log on here, and find this blog entry. Since Sidney is now out, patrolling (and sobering up) all I can do is post a pic from last summer, when he was given a catnip mouse by Auntie Jane. I think you will agree, he is as high as a kite. @ Auntie Summerangel, I think we may need to have a little discussion about leading people astray...

Hehehe Just thrifty and invent is my middle name lol...got that from my mom If I can get this work correctly it will cut my bathing time to 5 minutes per dog...then straight to the dryer..... That in itself will help my back tremendously. Instead of 5 hour groom days it should be a little over 2 hours if my master plan comes together..lol And if it doesn't work...well...sup pump it shall be ( plan C)... All depends if the intake pipe is gravity fed then it's onto plan B
