The Meaning of Rescue

Missysmom

I saw this when I took Missy to the vet yesterday. As my little girl was fighting her fear and refusing to go with the aide to the back I turned and saw this hanging there,

Mind you I too would be hesitant to go with someone with purple hair and a ring in her nose- but that wasn't Missy's issue at all. My poor little girl is Still afraid, after over a year, of being given away again.

Just makes me cry Everytime I see her fear. And this is oh sooo appropriate....

The Meaning of Rescue
author unknown

Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed,
All nicely tucked in my warm new bed.
I'd like to open my baggage
Lest I forget,
There is so much to carry -
So much to regret.
Hmm . . . Yes there it is, right on the top
Let's unpack Loneliness, Heartache and Loss
And there by my leash hides Fear and Shame.
As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave -
I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain.
I loved them, the others, the ones who left me,
But I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me.
Will you add to my baggage?
Will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things -
And take me right back?
Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage,
To never repack?
I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see,
But I do come with baggage -
Will you still want me?

Oh my goodness how beautiful. ❤️

And whom ever the author was surly knew what they carry in their luggage well.

I thought of my Abby as I read and surely everyone else with a rescue knows the contents too.

Thank You Vicki

Oh my goodness....that really hits home today.  I have been caring for a curmudgeon of a poodle for a week while his foster Mama went on a business trip.

When she picked him up today I told her I didn't envy her.....he is going to be hard to place.  He has a LOT of baggage.  He has a hard time accepting and just when you think he has.......he turns into a snarling opossum.  Give him a little more time and he will accept affection - but you never know when he is going to "go off" again.  It makes it hard to enjoy him........and visa versa.

I'll send that to his foster Mama tonight.

Oh bless his heart who knows what all he's been through, I sure hope he settles and can find a good loving home. And bless you Marlene for all you do in helping so many rescues.:throb:

Had to go grab a tissue..........every word oh so true in these paws lives. I can imagine the thoughts that were going thru Missy when you handed her over. It took Winnie going on three years to realize she was not leaving........

This made me remember the note that came with Allie when I got home and unpacked her bags from her foster Mom.

My bags are all packed and I've said my goodbyes,

There's a spring in my step and a gleam in my eyes.

My foster had promised I'd never have to roam,

and thanks to Ms. Donna I'm going to my forever home!

OH I Love the poem Allie's foster mom put in her bag, that was so sweet of her! Thanks so much for sharing that Jeannie.

And yes you are so right about Missy, she wouldn't even look at me or take a treat from me for quite awhile after the vet.. Broke my heart.
