Oooo these Restless Legs

Like many people I've had restless syndrome for many years but of late I can't get get off to sleep till about 4 am and feel like a slug when I do wake up. I went on Pinderfest last night and typed in a search....magnesium, hot baths, exercise on and on all the ways to treat it...it can't be cured. My mother had it real bad and I never thought I would be the same way but I am.

I used something last night that is just crazy after reading the home remedy and spotting numerous suggestions to use Vicks Vapor Rub. Well I had nothing to lose right?

So I slathered it on .....knee to bottom of feet and dived in bed...waited, waited, waited....Kept expecting the pain..but naught...nothing. I actually got three hours sleep till I had to reapply. Now how does it work, why does it work...who knows. I suspect it's the camphor but I could be wrong.

Anyway....stinky in bed but at least I can get a few more hours of sleep

I read (on a diabetes forum) that magnesium is really good, both as tablets and as salts in the bath.

A couple of people were using it in powdered form, tipping it in and then soaking in the water.

No idea if it would help.  I take magnesium as tablet form, since I learned that it is one of the most common deficiencies there is - something like a third of us are deficient, I think (but don't quote me)

Hope you find some kind of relief!  hours of it every night seems like torture!

Omg! Omg Those story's are ME! I use artificial sweetener exclusively and I used cocodomol ..... It's the only pain reliever that stops the pain in the joints......but I have weaned myself off them due to codeine side effects

Thank you so much Jo! I have been enlightened

:D

no worries!

if you have aches and pains in the joints, is it arthritis, or something else?

I found i was Vit D deficient (yet another good reason for walking the dogs cos its the sunlight vit!) and found that many of my aches and pains cleared up with vit D and vit K2 supplements.  Made such a difference that i feel like a new person.

also, have you looked at the 'natural' artificial sweeteners? Xylitol and erythritol?  I have switched to them exclusively.  More expensive, but no reactions to them (the chemically ones always gave me insomnia).

Unforunately I have inherited ostho arthritis parental and maternal side......in my back and left hip real bad and lower joints just now getting involved. I'm on no medication at the moment but I've reached the point that I need a full work up and start  antiflamatoids.

Walking isn't a option anymore for me even though I love it. Already lost one big toe joint to it and had it fused and it's now in my other foot...just a matter of time that will have to be fused also but it's 14 weeks in a cast and I keep putting it off....been there got the T Shirt lol

Walking any distance is very painful for me in the last few months so I tend to be housebound and not go out since the swelling in my foot joints lays me up for 3 days after any distance walking....short walks is all I can manage.

I haven't slept a good nights sleep in a couple years now....I call it just wore out from a hard life. The weather here has greatly effected my joints since I came 4 years ago....but with hubby's heart condition I can't  leave here due to his medical care...I need warmth to function

I wish we had talked earlier, just ordered my grocery for the week but next week I will change sweeteners...thank you for that suggestion also. Hugs

I'm so sorry that you have been suffering.  That sounds so painful!  I'm finding out that any kind of arthritis is no joke.  My own grandmother suffered from severe rheumatoid arthritis and she suffered miserably.  I have had restless leg issues in the past and I started taking magnesium supplements and they have helped tremendously.

I hope you are feeling better and are able to get some sleep.

OMG Crystal........so sorry to hear about your health issues. Great articles that Jo posted. I checked my e-mail this morning and one of my health newsletters had an article on DIY Magnesium Spray..........

1/4 Cup magnesium flakes or Epsom salts

1 Cup warm water

add to small/medium spray bottle

if using flakes let set to allow flakes to dissolve.

spray on arms, legs, chest and stomach......in the morning and again one hour before bed. Good to use right out of the shower. You can do this as often as you like but this is what was suggested.  Your pours absorb the magnesium that your body is lacking and this is a way to do it if your not able to do a magnesium soak bath.

Plus not getting outside you may be lacking vitamin D.......I have know people that lack it and once they got it back in their system what a difference. Your quack will be able to note that in a blood test. Keep us posted. We want you healthy.

This has nothing to do with your problem but I had a friend who's father like to drink.....A LOT......well his doctor told him due to his health issues he was going to have to stop..........so his solution was to take homemade moon shine and rub it on his arms and legs and chest.......it got into his pours and he was a HAPPY man for the rest of the day.
