  1. If I had a $ for every minute of my life I've spent walking hunched-over with a treat in my right hand and a lead in the left, repeatedly-saying "Puppy, puppy, puppy!" in a baby-talk voice...I could have retired a decade ago. Takes time and patience! Since Shih Tzu are so stubborn, it can take a LOT of work on your part!

  2. Maybe I am doing it wrong....? They are 3.5 months old, and we have had them for a month (Raven) and a month and a half (Freya) and I know small dogs take longer and Tzus are some of the worst with housebreaking! But, they don't in any way seem to grasp the concept that they should not pee in the house. We will go outside and do our business, then come in and literally....20 minutes of play time, and someone is squatting to dribble a bit on the floor!! And with no shame....when i see it and give a firm "NO" and run over to stop it, either one of them will just continue to do their business

  3. I think the challenge of house training is increased about one hundred fold when you're trying to train two puppies at once. You're going to need lots of extra patience -- well above and beyond the level it would take to train just one at a time. And they're still really babies. I wouldn't expect much in the way of bladder control before four months. Living where you do, and expecting the kind of winter you describe -- I think I'd work on training them to potty pads. You can get hard plastic holders for the pads so that they can't drag them around and chew on them. It would be spendy usi

  4. I put a collar on Lucey all the time, she is fine with it. I walked her around the apartment while waiting for her to get her final shots with the leash + collar and again she is fine with it. Took her out for the first time with collar and leash, again she is fine with it, then towards the end started to refuse to walk. 2nd time, completely refused to walk out of the apartment on collar and leash. I changed to harness and she is like a different puppy. Completely loves going out now

  5. Another thought is when you do get him leashed trained and take him out to potty, you can train him that that is all you are going to do on that walk. Once the business is done, bring him back in. Later you can take walks for exercise. I have almost trained Bosco to go on command. When we go out in the yard, I say "go potty" and he'll go to his favorite plant or garden spot and pee then turn in circles in another spot and poop. I need to find a new area to train him to go.

  7. Webcams come in really handy to watch your dogs with. I have 12 in my home and can view them by their IP addresses when I'm away from home. The bad thing is when you're away and see them chewing on your cabinets....... Vicki
