  1. Looks like I'm going to foster Snickers.....until we leave for the Oregon coast April 1. Snickers has cataracts and was owned by a senior with Parkinsons. No longer able to care for him, he was surrendered to a rescue I work with. Peace of Mind Dog Rescue works with seniors who pass away, go into nursing homes or can no longer physically or financially care for their dogs. They also pull seniors dumped in shelters. http://www.peaceofminddogrescue.org/index.php Snickers has cataracts and now glaucoma and will need to have his eyes removed. We have been through that with our Boxer Lulu

  12. Bless you for helping the old ones! There used to be (maybe still is) a very good Yahoo group for people with blind dogs. One of the best tips I know of is to scent different areas of your house using food flavoring (vanilla at the back door, lemon at the top of stairs, etc., etc.). Makes it easier for the dog to navigate safely.

  17. Thank you for all the thank yous Snickers will be in my care as a foster - we're not adopting him. His situation is so much like our Lulu's was......it just seemed he belonged here until he is adopted. We spend most of the summer in Oregon (we live in CA) so he can stay with us until the end of March. I DO belong to the Yahoo Blind Dogs group but never found much good info there. Most of the dogs there went "suddenly blind" and have a very hard time adapting. Sinckers, like our Lulu has had very little sight for a long time so has learned how to navigate through a home. I am told he

Blueberry cobbler sounds yummy with vanilla ice cream......I can smell it baking in the oven. Crystal I was asking if you make sweet cornbread or unsweet cornbread......I have had both and love the sweet cornbread. We have a resturant here that makes fried white cornbread cakes and they are tasty. I am not a born and raised Southern girl but one thing that I do like is fried apples......my friends from the north would always take a case of Lucky's fried apples back home with t

  30. Well, she's peed outside several times now and she's pooped out there a couple times too. The temps are dropping drastically again, so I'm definitely thankful for the pads right now. The kids laugh at me when I'm telling her "good girl" with a sing-song voice through clenched teeth because I want to encourage her to use the pads but she's currently peeing off the edge of one lol. Little stinker irritated me tonight when she ran around on her pad a few times and then walked two feet away from it and proceeded to pee! Still, I think she's doing very well for being a tiny little thing and new

  33. Thanks Vicki, I'm sorry to hear you go through this too. We're doing the retraining to make the car her 'friend' again and looking at getting her a car seat now instead of the beds. So far the special 'car' cookies she gets are a hit but that only lasts till she finishes eating it! I know it's waaaay too soon to see any changes and it's gonna take time so I'm packing exta patience each time we practice visiting the car. Will keep you posted how it goes.

  35. Hi Julia, I saw this post a while back and was going to reply saying that as I've been home quite often, Riley hasn't had the opportunity to destroy the newspaper down that is there for his toileting. However, on the occasions that I have had to go to work, I do sometimes come home to a bit of newspaper tearing. Obviously, if I see him tearing newspaper at the time, i.e. in the evenings when we're at home, I will say "NO" in a low voice, but I'm helpless in doing anything during the day if I'm not there. However, these past few mornings, say for the last four days or so, we've come

  39. Pip use to do that to his pads. Time I caught him doing it I was on it. Telling him no very mean like, over and over....He knew by my voice I was livid as I picked it up.....it lasted a few more times till he finally gave it up all together. Catch him in the act...then pounce, otherwise he wont know why your mad. . Then theres this week....hubby thought he was doing something funny by letting him grab the junk mail through the door and shred it. I told him in no uncertain terms he was back sliding what I had taught him awhile back and one day its going to be something important and then he
