  3. Snickers has been here for about 3 hours and things are going well. When I put him in the back of my hatch back - he jumped on Shorty G's booster seat and rode all the way home. Probably because it's a "small dog thing"? He wants to be as high as he can get? He couldn't see out the windows - LOL. He reminds me a lot of our Lulu, blind Boxer we lost last summer after 11 years. He's stubborn, fearless and feisty like she was. Snickers, Shorty and Sophie had a sniff fest for about 30 minutes and went back to their usual lolling. Looks like he has already "claimed me" - when he's on my lap

  7. No, mom is a good foster. It will be a very good thing to be able to send him to his new forever home saying he'll sleep happily in his crate but he loves being on the bed with his person.

  8. Just found out something new about Snickers........he was rescued as a stray after Hurricane Katrina. Things continue to go well. He is eating, finding his way to the open back door for potty and nonchalantly roaming around the house. Today will find just a tiny bit of tough love. He cannot have me all to himself......he's guarding me from Sophie and Shorty when on my lap. We will start by removing him from said lap when he starts growling and snarling. Next will be where he is going to sleep. Last night, his first night - I had his crate in the bedroom all fixed up soft, warm and snug

  12. Looks like I'm going to foster Snickers.....until we leave for the Oregon coast April 1. Snickers has cataracts and was owned by a senior with Parkinsons. No longer able to care for him, he was surrendered to a rescue I work with. Peace of Mind Dog Rescue works with seniors who pass away, go into nursing homes or can no longer physically or financially care for their dogs. They also pull seniors dumped in shelters. http://www.peaceofminddogrescue.org/index.php Snickers has cataracts and now glaucoma and will need to have his eyes removed. We have been through that with our Boxer Lulu

  13. I applaud what you are doing and pray that someone adopts Snickers before you go to Oregon.

  14. Thank you for all the thank yous Snickers will be in my care as a foster - we're not adopting him. His situation is so much like our Lulu's was......it just seemed he belonged here until he is adopted. We spend most of the summer in Oregon (we live in CA) so he can stay with us until the end of March. I DO belong to the Yahoo Blind Dogs group but never found much good info there. Most of the dogs there went "suddenly blind" and have a very hard time adapting. Sinckers, like our Lulu has had very little sight for a long time so has learned how to navigate through a home. I am told he

  20. Bless you for helping the old ones! There used to be (maybe still is) a very good Yahoo group for people with blind dogs. One of the best tips I know of is to scent different areas of your house using food flavoring (vanilla at the back door, lemon at the top of stairs, etc., etc.). Makes it easier for the dog to navigate safely.
