Since Koko was born, we have trained her to do her business in a corner in the garage where we have some newspapers on the floor for her. She has been very good on that; when she wants to go in the garage she barks in front of the door and then we open it for her.

We also find this very convenient because on a bad winter day, we don’t have to take her outside at all.

However a week ago we had the concrete slab in the garage replaced and since then Koko does not want to go in the garage although we saved some of her old newspapers and put them back in the same spot. Ok the floor before was painted a beige color and now it is just smooth concrete gray (we will paint it later) but is the color?

Even we pick her up and put her by the newspapers and she runs away like she is very afraid.

Any ideas?

I don't think dogs see color, so it can't be that. But, the odor of the new concrete might be what she doens't like. Keep taking her to her corner and maybe she will pick it up again?

Never thought about it, I bet that's what she doesn't like.

Thank you

Yep.... I'm sure it is the smell of the new floor. Dogs are very picky about where they do their business. Just keep putting her back there. Eventually she willl probably start using that spot again. It will just be like starting over with the training.

Also, you may want to use a litter box when she gets back to using that spot. Gaboo was paper trained and when he became consistant. We started putting the paper in a box. Now he uses it all the time. It makes it much easier for cleaning.
