And Cato was all jealous and pathetic and made that funny creaky noise cos he can't whine.  

I thought Shorty G was the only one that made that noise and can't whine properly!!

Is Shorty G's noise a creaky, coughing kind of grunt?

Took me ages to work out what the noise meant.  It seems to mean 'i am being very very polite and nice but i would very very much like you to let me up on your lap/give me the frog toy/take me outside at 3am cos i have an upset tum.'

Shorty does it when he wants back up on the bed.......as you say - it seems to be very polite, not constant.  I still have a hard time waking to it, not realizing what I'm hearing.  It doesn't set off my "the dog is whining alarm".  I have had Boxers who whine sooooo quietly you can barely hear it.  This usually means I'm cold and I need you to do something about it.  But no matter how soft, I always hear that one.

Is that a Shih Tzu trait?  Do they all whine that way?

We still giggle every day at the moaning and groaning done at certain times.....we make fun of him and groan back.  We get a groaning conversation going!

It's not a noise I've heard a dog make before.....I think that's why my brain doesn't register it as "I need attention" the way a baby's cry does or the "regular whine" of other dogs.

Tara has a very silly, girlie whine.  Very normal.  No creaking at all.  She makes the kind of noise four year old little girls make, when their fairy wings break just before their birthday party starts. 

Oh my gosh this was priceless!! The look, especially on Tara's face when she heard about Lacey's paw is totally Priceless!! They Both look Great after their spa day! And those liver treats sound Great!!

but ooh poor Cato and his non whine! That may be the Best!! 

Cato and Tara, you sweethearts. Awwww you did look very concerned about Lacey. 

Lacey says thank you for worrying about her and she feels a lot better today. She was licking her paws a little last night, but she hasn't once done it today.
