SUNDAY 21st Feb: Sand dunes

Crinkly

Sidney:    The shed roof is peeling worse and worse.  Of course, i always said it would be a complete disaster.  So reassuring to be always right, isn't it?

Once i am trapped in prison, :( I won't be able to monitor the deterioration, will I? :)

2 days before they abandon me.

Cato:       We went to the Sand Dune beach today.  Haven't been there in ages.

we walk along the dune path, then turn round and walk back along the beach.  But we only go in good weather.  Mum took us there once, and the wind nearly blew us all over.

Tara hardly beat me up at all today.  We have been having long walks lately, so maybe she is tired.  Or maybe now she thinks she is being starved, she doesnt have the strength...?  Yesterday we had salmon and haddock for breakfast. Yum.  Then we had beef for tea, and she ate mine when i was distracted, but i wasn't really hungry.  Then chicken thigh for breakfast.  So we aren't really starving, but Tara is being a pest about it.  We aren't allowed to beg, but she keeps trying.

This is the view from the top of the dunes

People put benches along the path, in memory of people who liked being here.  Lovely.  Someone has left flowers too, this time.  Tara jumped up and sniffed them.

This is an old bench that isn't maintained any more. :(

Tara:      These are MY footprints.

I climb EVERYTHING :)

this is when i went all the way up, and wimpy, boring, Cato was trying to get me to come back down, cos he thought i would get lost.

as if I would!  I am clever and brave and he is just a fuss pot.

besides, i came down when Dad called.  I thought he was going to give me a treat, but he didn't. :(

:clap:Thanks for another great adventure. Looks a bit chilly!!!  I noticed boats in the background on the one picture....are you a fishing village? Or are they just for pleasure?

Actually, it was really warm, just low grey cloud.  Sometimes that is warmer than a clear sky.  Actually felt quite spring-like!

those boat masts are in the tiny little marina just round the corner from the dunes.

our little town started out as a fishing village in the early 1800s, but the railway came, and turned it into a day-trip resort for the big towns inland.  So it grew the pier, and arcades, and the promenade, ornamental gardens and fishnchip shops.

now it has lots of hotels and B&Bs, a small theme park, and a couple of big chalet campsites.  Most of the businesses are small and depend on tourists. :)

our next reincarnation may well be because they are building huge wind farms off shore, and most of the engineering and construction will happen nearby. :)

not bad for a tiny, impoverished fishing village with smokeries, eh?

I just love how you two like to investigate... Nothing gets past you.... Do you ever see cuttle fish washed up on your beaches?

I think this is the best adventure pictures yet.

How beautiful is that to sit and ponder your thoughts while looking out into the sea, so peaceful and tranquil. Loved the memory benches, what a lovely thought. Sad about the over grown unkept beach though :(

You all are very fortunate to live and love in such a beautiful place

Cato:   Will get Mum to photograph some cuttlefish shells.  Saw some yesterday on the normal beach, but they are never alive, only empty broken shells.  Might not be for a while.  I think Mum wants to check on the cherry blossom tomorrow.  And then we are off in a car adventure, and getting a new home for a few days.  Sidney is staying here.

I want to go and see the fort, but we would have to swim, and it would be very cold and wet.  I got my feet wet once by a wave.  Didn't like it.
