SATURDAY 2nd Apr: 1st gardening of the year

Tara:  Mum went out this morning and left us the run of the house!  Normally she would put us in our crates, with chews and stuff, and we would go to sleep, but this was an experiment.  She says.  Wot is an experiment?

So we were in charge.  For ages.

Then when she came home she told us she had been to the human groomer, and had less head fur.  But humans all look the same to me, so I just bounced cos I was glad she woz home and could give us some breakfast!

Cato:  We did gardening this afternoon instead of a walk.  Not sure that gardening is worth missing a walk for, but Mum has been phaffing with YET ANOTHER camera and there wasn't time to go out. :(

So here are pictures of our garden.  Mum says there is lots and lots and lots of stuff to do, ready for the summer, and we are going to have to work very hard.  The first thing she did was a massive poo pickup mission.  hahahaha!  She often comes out and does poo pickups, but we have been finding new and better places to hide our poo, and today she found them all!  Busted!!!

I will let Mum explain the plant stuff, cos she is the one interested.  I just fought Tara, and scuffled gravel, and we both tried to knock over her gardening stuff as she was working.

Mum:  Don't you just love those little gardening helpers, eh?

No letting you see a pic of the whole garden til I have done a lot more tidying, because there is a lot of leaf and grass litter as well as drunken solar lighting.  Hope the weather stays good for tomorrow...  Anyway, these are pics of the NEW camera.  I am liking it so far.  The day was gold and blue, and that is clearly picked up by the colours.  And the bricks really are that terracotta colour when the sun is full on them.

Pteris, in bloom :) In shadow, so I am happy with the colours.

Forgotten this palm's name, but it is supposed to be fully hardy, and it has certainly come through the winter well enough to deserve a permanent terracotta pot in this location. :)

clematis sprouting beautifully.  20 mins later I had hacked it off 18 inches above the ground to keep it from straggling too much (like it did last year).  The sky really was that colour.

ornamental grassy stuff, just sprouting at the base.  Needs a good hack back too.  But the seed heads look so beautiful in a frost, and against the shed wall, I leave them all winter.

and finally, no tour of our garden would be complete without the ubiquitous shed roof shot, would it? :roflmao:

Overall, this camera looks like it will do.  But I need to learn how to zoom and do closeups, which will save cropping when I get the pics on the computer...

Nice shots! What was the first camera you got before settling on this and sorry if I missed this one, but what didn't you like about the previous one?

The first camera was a 'bargain' on Thursday - that broke by Friday - refunded Fri, and replaced by this new one on Sat (today).

However frustrating, I am still glad it happened.  Didn't like the pics from the duff one AT ALL (see yesterday's blog for comparison shots) so am pleased it worked out the way it has.

Is your palm a trachycarpus wagnerianus ? Common name dwarf chusan Palm hardy to about -10 or lower..

Lovely pictures from your new camera and beautiful sunny day you had there.

I think you both deserve a day off from walking after you'd worn yourself out at Aunty Kim's the other day.

I think it is either a chusan or a wagnerius palm.  But I can't remember which.  I know the blurb said it could go down to about -18 degrees (that was the most important thing for me, so I remember it).  I've made too many mistakes with frost.  I now only buy really hardy stuff.

i know what you mean. I've bought plants before, just to loose them in the first frost...

I have bamboo too because it's pretty hardy.

Looks a very nice palm too
