TUESDAY 10th May: Too soggy
Cato: Mum says it is too soggy for a walk today. And Tara is being unbearable. She was so bouncy that I wouldn't go to Dad to collect my Calcium Bone treat, so I didn't get one. She had one though.
Then Mum gave me mine when she wasn't around, but I made the mistake of going to my Treat Place in the front room, and she saw me. If Dad hadn't been there, she would have stolen it.
Anyway, Mum says since there is no walk, and no pics today, cos everything is soggy - except us, and we don't want to GET soggy - she thinks it would be a good idea to tell you some stuff about last night's bedtime. So here goes.
We went out for our usual 'Outside'. I always tinkle, and Tara hovvers about on the doorstep, and sometimes she doesn't GO. But then she likes to hop in and out of the catflap all evening, so she may tinkle all evening and not need to late at night. Not that I care. Anyway, I tinkle, then I have a quick patrol of the garden, to check everything is OK. Now that Sidney is off duty, it falls to me. And I always check for ghosts down the side alley. They have been gone a while, but they could always come back. I have to be viligant, don't I?
Then we go inside, and Mum locks up while Dad picks us up. Me under one arm, and Tara wriggling and squirming and trying to kiss his face under the other arm. I don't like being picked up cos the stairs are high, and I don't like high stuff. But I would rather be picked up than be left downstairs all night.
When we get up, Dad puts us on the bed, and Tara bounces a bit. Mum gives us my Orange Monkey toy, but Tara usually grabs it and plays Shakey Shake. We have to wait while Mum and Dad do bathroom stuff. Tara blunders about the Bed shaking, and I usually lie watching down the landing, to check they are OK. I don't know the upstairs at all. Just the Big Bed, the pen, and I can see the Big Bedroom Floor, but I don't know what else is upstairs, so I don't really know they will be safe. And then they come and join us on the Big Bed. It is always fun to try and sit EXACTLY where they want to get in.
Then Mum and Dad try to read, and Tara tries to bounce, and I try to go to sleep. If I go to sleep before they do, they might let me stay on the Big Bed all night, you see. It is like a race. But Tara always tries to pick a fight, and winds me up, and then we have a game, and then suddenly Mum is saying 'Right Chaps, time for Bed!'
Sometimes Dad puts us down into the pen. Sometimes Mum. Even though Mum sleeps next to the pen, she makes Dad put us down sometimes, so that it isn't always her being mean and putting us off the bed.
I just sigh, and get into the nearest Den, but Tara always huffs and squeaks and whines and whinges if I get into the Pen she wanted. Sigh. Always a drama. And then we close our eyes, and then it is morning.
Oh, except last light woz different. Cos I got thirsty during the trying-to-get-to-sleep-while-being-bounced-on phase. And I went over to the edge and stared down. And Mum understood and lifted me down into the Pen, and waited till I had a drink, and I came and stood with my front paws on the side of the Bed. And she lifted me back up and said 'You are a Genius, Young Man' because I knew wot time it was, and that it wasn't Dentime yet, so I knew I would be allowed back up.
I don't think it was being Genius, I just think it was being thirsty. But Tara wouldn't have been able to work out how to ask, so I agree I am more Genius than she is. But that isn't difficult, is it?'
Anyway, Mum said you would think that was cute, so I had to tell you.
Tara: No walk. But lots of python fights with Dad. And snuggles. He goes back to W*rk tomorrow. I shall miss him. especially in the morning when Mum has gone and I sneakily sneak with utmost sneakiness up onto the bed, and kiss him awake. Cato just lies in his Den like a slug, and I get Dad all to myself for a bit. Except not tomorrow.
