It's official... I'm a hunter

Oh dear, I don't think Mummy is talking to me.

I asked to go outside and play.

Aunties, I was minding my own business and a Mummy sparrow and her babies were flying around , anyway one of her babies landed on the grass and I chased it and caught and put it all in my mouth. It was making a loud squeak sound which sounds like all my toys that I play with.

Mummy must of been watching from the kitchen window, because the next thing I know she comes running outside and prized my mouth open to take the little birdie out.., I let her take it out, but it was dead... ?

Do you know Aunties, it all fitted in my mouth.

Mummy said I was a naughty boy for catching that bird. But it sounded just like my toys that she buys for me to play with.. And boy I was quick to catch it,

Mummy... I did tell him he was a naughty boy for catching and killing a fledgling, but I also had to tell him he was a good boy for letting me open his mouth and take the birdie out. So I gave him a treat for letting me take the bird.. Didn't feel right giving him a treat after all that, but I was taking his catch from him... ?

RIP sweet birdie ?

As much as you want them to be the perfect paw we have to remember the natural instinct of animals.......I am waiting for Lexie to bring me a surprise one day.......birds are her fancy........she is always chasing them and now with babies starting to hatch it will be a mater of time. Donte you were a good boy for letting Mum open your mouth.......Never a dull moment in our day when we have paws huh?

Ooooh!  :dribble:  (says Cato)

You are a HERO!!!  What a magnificent hunt!  It sounds VERY exciting.

Wish I could hunt.

We had a cat in our garden this morning, but it was too big to hunt.  We only went out when we saw Mum was coming with us.  I WISH I had hunted a bird like you.

Donte, you are my HERO!!!

Mum:  Oh yes.  I have been through this with the cats many times.  Instincts is instincts is instincts, I am afraid.  At least it was a quick kill.  And the squeaky prey really is irresistible for them... :(

I've had this happen with Fluffy when she was little.  She brought me a baby squirrel.  It is definitely their instincts.  Donte, you were a good boy letting your Mom taking the baby bird from your mouth.

This was a first with me, with dogs. Our cat was always catching something.

Cato, it was really exciting. Lacey was watching me hoping I would drop it so she could claim it, but I wasn't letting go... It marked lots of squeaky sounds and the Mummy and Daddy birds were trying to dive bomb me...

They certainly do keep us on our toes....

Our Jack was a Champion ratter when we lived in Chicago.  He'd spot one of those suckers near a trash bin walking in the park, we'd let him go and BOOM!  One less rat in Chicago.  Here in the 'burbs, he has to be content with mice and chipmunks (he swallows the mice whole).  He would DEARLY love to catch a rabbit or a squirrel, but no luck so far.  He lived on the streets for some time before Animal Control caught him, and apparently that's where he learned to catch his own food.
