Autumn Photoshoot

Crinkly

Today we saw real signs of the changing of the seasons.

Some of these pictures have come out like Rembrandt oil paintings (slightly fuzzy, and look best when you stand further away), and some are crisp and clear.  I think it is the difference between the Auto Focus, and the zoom where I control the focusing.  I definitely need more practice at these closeups!

I was wandering round thinking 'gosh, there is nothing to shoot', but then I noticed how subtly beautiful the light is, and how small and precise all the detail is.  No huge flamboyant flowers.  Instead everything has gone tastefully delicate.   Hope I managed to capture it...

Those exquisite mint green pinecones are covered in dew and are each about an inch long (Auto Focus)

This spider is about half an inch long.  They grow bigger in our garden, where the population is up in the 100s...  Sometimes the webs are over a yard across. (manual zoom and focus)

Beautiful photos Jo. I especially love the pine cones...

Hehe, I see you threw in one of my favourite palm trunks , thanks ?

Yuck! Spiders I hate this time of year as they are everywhere....

Thanks Crystal!

@Summerangel Yes, those yellow/brown orb spiders knit huge great webs across between furniture, plants, trees and shrubs.

At this time of year, the only way I can get down to the bottom of the garden is by going out armed with a fly swatter, and gently flicking them out of their webs and over the wall.  But they are all back the following morning! lol

Ugh.....I know spiders do good work.......as do the garter snakes in my yard.  I just wish they'd let me know where they are hanging out!  I don't like surprises!

Loved the interesting photos showing Nature winding down for the next season.

Ha Ha......this is the time of year the "Tarantula Festival" is held where I live in California.  As creepy as it sounds......it's fun.  Good food, music, crafts for the kids and live handling of reptiles and tarantulas.......if you're interested.  Not!

:roflmao:Guess what Jo, we have a narrow walkway beside the greenhouse leading to a shed, against the fence we have a blackberry bush and this time of year the spider webs span from the bush to the greenhouse.

I do exactly what you do. I walk down there waving something in my hand to move them out the way. I've walked into one before and screamed my head off!!!

I dread to think what we look like! Lol

Same here.........I am always walking into webs so I have something in my hand and wave it in front of me while I am walking.......I hate spiders.

Jo......great pictures. Even though the temperature is HOT here you can tell the season is changing due to the position of the sun.....and the fact the days are getting shorter........dark here now at 8pm.

Beautiful pics.  I love the spider webs.  Those spiders worked so hard to make them.

I feel the same way about spider webs....especially if the light is just right and they are covered with dew.  If they just didn't have spiders hanging out on them........

I always thought assumed that the Autumn plant changes happened because of the cold, but temperatures have stayed in the 70s, which is Summer temps around here.

So is it the light?  The days are noticably shorter, and the sun lower.

Or is it that the leaves and flowers have a set lifespan?  Flowers, obviously, but leaves?  If we had an endless summer that lasted to Xmas, would the leaves all turn brown and die on schedule, regardless?

I know, I am just wibbling speculatively, but this Indian Summer we are having, and the way the leaves are all dropping and browning anyway, just has me thinking.

Gorgeous pics Jo, love them all! Especially love the blackberry pic took me back to my childhood when we used to go pick the wild ones in the woods! Mmm love eating them fresh! You made my morning seeing these!

oooh yeah spider webs, reminds me of Halloween around here we have so many! I'm walking into them all day long nowadays and seem to be wiping them off me the rest of the day! And yes I'm covered in spider bites... Ugh! Guess I can't blame them though since I am walking into there homes... :(
