TUESDAY 6th December: Beachy Battles

Crinkly

Tara:

Epic Ninja Beach Battles today!  And look, someone brushed the sand for us!  It was weird to walk on.  All soft.

Cato didn't like it to start with, but then he caught up with Me and Dad.

So I had to fight him.

But Aunties, I think you need to have a bit of a word with Mum.  About Cato.  Cos he has been a bit weird lately, and it is all wrong.  It started with the whole gluten free thing.  I mean, I don't mind that he is so wimpy that he can't eat sausages properly.  That is OK.  Cos it means we get even nicer sausages instead.  Like today.  I got 3 bits and Cato got littler bits.  So I don't mind him being all pathetic and having to have special food that I like.

But... the thing is... he had gone all weird.  I mean, look...

He has started to fight back. Properly.  He doesn't wimp out and lie down and let me ninja him any more.  He chest bumps and does tooth clashing!!!  And he doesn't back down any more!!!

It is very worrying.

DSCN3916_zpsppjhhp8s.jpg

and no, I am NOT running away, or giving up, or anything.

DSCN3917_zpscwlqrhhs.jpg

I just wanted a breather, while I planned my next ninjaness!  And here it is!!!

Haha!  I got him.  And I got him good!

DSCN3919%202_zpspwmzn8fa.jpg

Mum and Cato both say that the real reason he is lying down there is cos I was standing on his coat collar.

But that isn't true!  I was standing on his ear.  He got a bit cross about it, actually.

It was OK though, cos he came sniffing with me immediately after.

But Mum decided to take his coat off, cos it was stopping him from fighting back, she said!  Not fair!!! Dad said that was like seeding a golf handy cap or something, but we don't wear hats.

Wotever.

Cato:

It was a nice walk, expect for Tara being a bouncy pest

It woz very grey and misty.  There wozn't any sky at all, @AuntieCrystal.

But the best bit was where I learned about going round.

I will tell you about it.  See, here I am, just before I discovered it.

DSCN3928_zpsiwyx2ecg.jpg

There was this big high wooden thing in the way.  And Mum and Dad just walked over it.  And Tara jumped over it.  But it is easy for them, cos they have long legs and can see wot is on the other side.  I can't.  And that makes it not-safe.

I did ask Mum to give me a lift, but she said 'time to be brave, Little Man' and 'You can do it.  I believe in you.'

But I was kind of stuck.

DSCN3929_zpshmfhrxgi.jpg

Only then I saw Tara discover that AWESOME wood thing.  And it looked all sniffy.

DSCN3930_zpszy3tki4x.jpg

So I was REALLY BRAVE and I scrambled over the wood barrier thing, so I could sniff the sniffy wood thing.

I didn't like doing it though.  But the sniffy wood kind of made it worth it.

DSCN3931_zpsix9fased.jpg

and then we came to another!  And this time it was even higher!

DSCN3934_zpstqcokcso.jpg

So I investigated it, and sniffed it, and Tara came to see what I was doing.  And I still didn't like it.

DSCN3935_zps03pjrqko.jpg

And Dad walked over it.  And Tara walked over it.  And I didn't want to.

But then I had a thought!  And I went round.  Can you see me?  I am just going around it in this pic.  Only you can only see my leg, cos I am being so clever that Mum didn't realise she should take a photo, for postumusness.  (Mum: I think he means posterity.  but it could be posteriority)

DSCN3936_zpsqolkuy01.jpg

So then Tara found the end of the beach, and the way home.  And it was high and I didn't like it again.

DSCN3937_zpsjqoyhyei.jpg

So I went round again.  Mum says she could see the light bulb switching on.

DSCN3938_zpsh3o2wx7f.jpg

This is us going up to the promendado with Dad.

Mum:

No flowers or skies or anything today.  Just damp mist.  but the pups enjoyed it.  Including this looong promenade of sniffs all the way back... see all those lamp posts?

Well, believe me when I say that every single one was thoroughly investigated!!!

You two are brave paws..much to cold for these old bones of mine. The dreary sky's and the all day and night fog have been bad here also but I'm so glad to see you fighting and bouncing on the beach again. And especially proud your feeling so much better Cato to stand up for yourself and fight back.

Wondering if I went GF would I get cleaver and smarter like you have Cato? Amazing  transformation physically and mentally...Well Done

Yes, transformation is the right word.  Oh, he hasn't turned aggressive or anything, it is just that he puts up with a bit less of Tara's bouncing, and ticks her off more firmly if she goes too far.  They still sleep curled up beside each other, and he is just as affectionate to us humans.

I know I keep mentioning it, but it is just such an astonishing benefit to a bit of dietary speculation.  Especially considering he was only eating gluten once a week or so!

The most amazing thing is that he now has no pink on him at all.   Maybe the tiniest hint of pink on his beard (from drinking), but even that is barely there.  Under his eyes is white and black now, instead of tawny pink and black.  And he always had hints of pink right on his anus skin, and the insides of his ankles.  All gone.  He must have had a mild systemic yeast infection, (like candida in humans) which was then worse in the depths of his ears.  He even smells different.  You can go right up to his face and there is not a hint of 'dogginess'.

For me, going gluten free has reduced the inflammation in my knees by about 50%, and I think my knuckles are less sore too.  I have had a very mild form of psoriasis in my hairline for about 30 years (it started when I was at university), and that has cleared up.  But the most interesting thing is the timeline.  I have spent 3 decades wondering what causes my psoriasis.  It came, flared then faded, only to come back in varying amounts, never quite clearing up.  Now I know why!  One half slice of toast, or a bit of flour in a sauce, or a battered onion ring is enough to cause it (I have been running some tests :) ).  But the symptoms don't start until 2-3 days AFTER I ate the thing.  Then it gets itchy sore for 2-3 days, then it takes ANOTHER 10 days for the thing to go away.  The GF video I watched says that people with more severe GF reactions can have symptoms for up to 12 weeks from a single meal containing gluten.  That is a terrible thought.  How would anyone ever spot that on a shorter elimination diet?  And the symptoms are so varied... they can be asthma, psoriasis, tummy issues, bowel, indigestion, heartburn, acid reflux, energy issues, sleep, itching... the list is virtually endless!

In the last few decades I have never been TOTALLY gluten free for two weeks at a time.  It takes a real effort to do that.  And I always suspected it was milk, not grains that were the root cause...

Anyway, very glad to have found it now.  And seeing the benefit to Cato makes me wonder how many other dogs and humans have similar issues?  Every time I see pink stains on a dog now, the thought runs through my head...

Wow, that's amazing. Buddy has pink on his legs but he also has it on his face and neck and on some parts of his hair which is going from darker to lighter, so I don't know if his true color hasn't come out yet or if it is something else? I thought it was water stains from walking on the grass. Because he doesn't have it on his mustache, but he drinks out of a water bottle.

Yikes, I should look into that.

Nice walk Cato...you're so smart, going around :)
