Mum:
Sorry to go onandonandon about this. But it is incredible to watch. I can't help sharing it with you.
Now you have to understand that during his puppyhood, Cato was an utter Babe Magnet. It was a bit embarrassing, really. They would scream, squeal, and cross the road at breakneck speeds to lavish adoration on him. Then along came that fateful Autumn, he got the snuffles, antibiotics, and some of the light went out of his eyes. He became calmer, quieter, less social, less energetic. He was healthy, but not fully bouncy ever again. and his grumbling yeasty ear infections started, his energy levels dropped. Since he was nearly 2 years old, I thought that he was just 'growing up'.
Well, now I know that these events all conspired, in combination with what is now a Gluten Intolerance, to knock him off full health. I thought it was thyroid issues, but am thinking it is much simpler than that! Now that he is 6 weeks Gluten Free, he is returning to his full charismatic self.
We just went out for a walk, at dusk, while school kids were walking home in the usual gaggles and clusters. Also the odd mother, pram and toddler. They were, quite simply, there to worship him. Actually, they were queueing up to worship him! With the occasional shriek, squeal, 'can I have him?' and 'he's perfect!'.
- his energy levels now rival Tara's (which is quite scary)
- his eyes are brighter, his demeanor more alert
- he is looking for people and children to meet so that they can stroke and fuss him
- his legs are like a blur, zipping about
- when he has to sit to cross the road, his bum hits the floor, and he Meerkats so fast there were kids gasping at his cuteness
- he marches up to strangers and waits, tail wagging for them to fall over themselves - and they do!
This is all behaviour I haven't seen in 2 years. Yes, he has always been a gentleman. Yes, he has always been polite and friendly and sniffy and engaged, but this level of charisma has been missing for 2 years.
Tara is, of course, also delightful, and charming, and friendly, but she doesn't have his confidence. What happens is that they notice the blond Cato, greet him, spot Tara, and she comes forward to get her share of attention. At which point, they fall in love with her, and her topknot, too. But it is Cato who is the attention grabber, the limelight stealer, and the one with the mojo. I had forgotten how magical he can be when he switches on the charm.
