need a bit of help we've had baxter and benson almost two years now and still having

trouble getting them to go outside to go to the toilet,

example two days ago we were doing a lot of gardening but stopped for dinner

frence doors were open all day but they followed us in and did a puddle in the conservatory

after being out side for 3/4 hours.

i would appreciate any help on this matter thanks in advance.

p.s we have tried all the methods of training mats etc but no joy

cheers...............dekker

Clean thoroughly meaning shampoo any carpets, and use natures miracle or vinegar solution to mop with on tile hard wood etc...

If they smell the slightest smell they will continut to relieve inside the home.... After that is done 100%

then you start potty training 101 just as if they were puppies again....

The crate at this time is a powerful ally.

This may only take several days but do it as long as you have to in order to get the job done right.

Crate at all times........ The only times they are allowed out of the crate is to pee/poo outside, to eat, drink, to play a bit and then right back in the crate they go.....

If you take them outside and they do not pee and/or poo with in 10 mins of being outside, then bring them right back in and put them in the crate, repeat again in 15 mins. Eventually with this routine they will learn hmmmm I guess this is where I need to go now because I wont get full rein of the house again until I do what Im suppose to do.

I taught Lea at 3 months old this way and in 3 days of crating then it clicked... so far so good.... we still at a year old have accidents with her but for the most part she's 99% trained. She always goes to the same spot, the bathroom, today was the first pee accident we had in months, but she's been commonly known to poo after going out to pee and wont ring the poochie bells to tell me she's got to poo. So I may have to have a refresher course for her soon.

Bert and Lea are littermates... I trained them 1 month apart because bert would use the pad where as Lea wouldnt. So I used all my pads up, then decided not to buy anymore and trained Bert the same way at 4 months old with 7 days of training then it clicked. He is 100%trained and hasnt had an accident in the house in several months.

So some dogs are different and you may have to go a little longer than the other.

But you can do it if you really truely want to stick to your guns.

Oh yeah forgot to add, always escort them out on a leash, they should have no play time at potty breaks, and when you have a successful pee and/or poo give them a special treat that they never get. Always keep the treat bag next to the door.

Good Luck

I've found that sometimes my dogs would rather go in 'unfamiliar' territory.. as in on their walk, or when I take them to their field (off-leash) to play..Thats when they are most likely to go to the bathroom. Exercise stimulates their bowels, so a little walk around the block might help..Also routine, routine, routine.. thats what truly helped me..Every 3-4 hours take them out and give the 'pee pee' command..then treat once they go..They will figure it out. Pandora, my last shih-tzu took forever to potty train until I finally realized that exercise is what really made the difference in her going outside..Good luck! :praying:

I would suggest not letting them play freely outside until AFTER they do their "business". To do this, take them ON leash to a certain spot in the yard, especially first thing in the morning when you know they need to go. Continue to tell them "go potty" or whatever you use for training words. Once they go...PRAISE, PRAISE, PRAISE and then let them off leash to play. EVERY time you take them outside, do it ON leash and go to the potty spot. If they DON'T go, take them back in, but no play time until they do.
