SUNDAY 1st May: Park invasion and team spirit

Cato:

Breakfast with Auntie Jane Today!  Very waggy.  We got so excited in the car when Auntie Jane appeared that Mum shouted at us for nearly bursting her eardrums.  Wot are eardrums?  We were jumping and barking and being very noisy.  But it is very hard to be quiet when we see Auntie Jane!  She is FAB!!!

After breakfast sausage we went to Foxy Park, but it was weird.

First great sniff:

No Foxy.  He has definitely moved out.  I got right down and sniffified the hole, and there is mud and leaves and stuff in the entrance.  Tara was messing about and pretending to push me, but Mum made sure that she didn't.

It was odd because there were so many people in OUR park.  Mum says that it is a bank holiday weekend, and that normal stay-at-home people suddenly all come crawling out of the woodwork.  But the weirdest thing was the number of dogs we saw!  Mum says maybe they only get walked on bank holidays too. :( That is sad.

See what I mean about all the people?

Tara:

There were so many people! :)

and so many dogs! :(

I spent a lot of time up on benches so I was taller than them

And though we did play a lot, we also kept a good look out, cos there were stranger dogs around and kids on bikes, and stuff, so we had to keep an eye out.  Mum says we will get the park back as soon as it rains, and everyone goes back to work.  I will like that.

But we still had a good fight!

The sun was so bright our eyes were watering.

Here are all Mum's boring flowers.

Mum:

Interesting that with all the other dogs around, Cato and Tara seemed to pull together as a slightly wary team today - especially after that nonsense with the fighting yesterday!

The narcissus have really taken over from the daffs:

and these tiny naturalised tulips are going full force now, including some yellow ones

The lime blossom is almost neon.

The cherries have stood still for weeks now, during the cold snap. :( hopefully they will pop this week...

The hail must have melted into the muddles

I'm going to find you a Boxer.  No, don't thank me.  You need one.  You have the perfect lifestyle and attitude to have a goofy Boxer.  Interesting walks almost every day!  A fun attitude that is "don't sweat the small stuff", a little dirt never hurt anyone, bed time snuggles, welcome laps, rough housing and fights are fun.

Yes!  Definitely!  It's not fair that there's a Boxer close by that needs a home and yours is perfect!

The park is looking so pretty now with the flowers opened...know you two will be glad when Bank Hoilday has passed and you don't have to watch out for kids and other dogs...just bounce, bounce, bounce. A no Tara... that doesn't mean bounce on brothers head either :roflmao:

Oh Marlene, if you only knew...

I spent most of my life wanting either an Irish Wolfhound or a Boxer.  More the Boxer.  Always thought they were the PERFECT dog... But life just didn't shape that way.  Now we live in a tiny house, and do 1-2mile walk once day... Not enough space, or time for all that Boxer energy... Will always love them though.

we went for Shih Tzus for a few reasons

- they potty themselves through the catflap

- even if they pull on the lead, they wont be strong enough to hurt my back

- they live long (less grief)

- they fit in our tiny house and car

- if we can't walk them EVERY day, they cope (though they seem to disagree!)

- they are perfect in every way...

but i still love Boxers. :)

You are a smart and realistic family to know your limitations.  It is so sad when you place a rescue Boxer - puppy to senior in a new home and it's returned because the new adopters didn't "understand what they thought they wanted".

Like the last line in one of my old Boxer breed books says....Boxers may be too much fun for some families.  If you haven't lived it - you don't get it.  But if you do get it you will be hooked by the breed.

We've been there, done that and it's why they will always be our "heart dog" but we know they are too much for us now.  Sophie is now about 6 and is a perfect Boxer for us (we stole her from a foster Mom who was going to keep her as a store dog in an antique store where she would have been perfect.  I've always felt bad about stealing her away).

Oddly enough - once they are mature and if they get one good round of exercise daily - they are fine small home/apt dogs.

It has to quite an adjustment to have to share the park when you pretty much have had it to yourselves..........but you did good by staying together. Tell Mum the flower pictures were pretty.....and thank you for sharing another wonderful walk with us.......

We have the Border Collies and they are a dog that needs lots of space to run and even with us having the space once Andy and Gracie pass we have decided at our age we will not replace them.  We always said Andy had attention deficit and that  he was our wild child and this year he has finally matured to where he now keeps up with us.......slower pace.

Wow what a lot of people you had to deal with, no fun sharing that gorgeous park, good thing you stuck together! It's so beautiful with all those flowers though I can see why all the people want to come there! Can't wait till you have it to yourselves again though. So sad foxy moved away but it was probably way to crowded for him too, maybe he'll come back when all the people leave!! :D

You are so right about them perfect!  I love the Shih Tzu breed.  Cato and Tara are always so entertaining.  My Coco and Benji have fights like theirs too.  We call it "bronco busting". :hysterical:   They enjoy a good fight at least several times a day. The flowers in your area are so pretty!
