MONDAY 8th August: Donkeys, kites and tunnelling
Cato: We were at the Big Lake again today, and did the tunnel. Mud said it might be the least muddy EVER after all the sun, and she woz right!
It looks like mud, but really it is just hard dry earthy stuff now. A bit disappointing, really. Dad didn't wobble and slide at all!
We had a good fight half way along the tunnel. Tara picked the same spot for a rumble last time, too.
Can you see Dad? he woz slinking off into the shadows, showing Tara some ninja techniques. I don't ninja. I am too much of a gentleman.
This woz a really sniffy hole. someone lives there, but we don't know who.
There were kites too! We had never seen kites before.
Mum said that if Tara tried tripping her up one more time then she would hang her from one of the kites by her ears, and she could REALLY have the FULL kite experience.
Tara said she would like that, could we do it today. And do kites come in PINK?
Tara:
It was a fab walk. I wanted to kite, but we never found the place on the ground that they live. Or I would have asked! It looks amazing, doesn't it?
This is us after we crossed the big dry hot field. See how far back Cato is. He was doing the panty thing. Wimp. I kept up with my Dad all the way.
See how windy is is? The waves and the reeds all flapping and splashing. The wind was really warm though.
Look at this. Mum says it is duckweed and I am not allowed to walk on it. Boring, eh?
and see how dry and hard and cracked the ground is. No mud at ALL!!!
It woz a lovely long walk, and these are all interesting places and sniffs and stuff. we didn't see any big dogs either. So that was ACE.
Mum pointed the white heron out us. He is very big. And he didn't like us. He was in front of us, and when we got close he flapped off, circled round and landed behind us. He stands in the water and catches fish. I wanted to watch but Mum said 'Come on, Tara, don't bother him.' so I couldn't.
But then we saw the donkeys! It woz the best bit!
Cato stayed with Dad, but I climbed in through the fence and got a really good sniff and a look. They are VERY big.
And I found some fresh poo. It woz quite chewy. Mum says I need those special treats now, in case I get wriggly insides.
I decided to come back in and stay with Dad and Cato. Dad showed us where to walk so the donkeys couldn't get us. They look a bit, um, mean, don't they?
and this is us in the car going home.
it woz a brill walk, and I hope we see kites again!
