This will be my Blog of comfort as I take no medication/prescription other than vitamins or an occasional aspirin.  Years ago when I was in my early 40's I started the change......the dreaded change that I had been told all my life would happen. I always called my periods The Curse and for the life of me could not see what was so bad in never having one again........well it hit.....the sweats, the hot flashes, the crappiness and I mean hateful crappiness.......it just happen one day right before my doctors appointment to deal with this hormone imbalance I was watching Oprah and she had a doctor on that made a comment that changed my life.......WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IF TAKING CERTAIN VITAMINS WHILE GOING THRU YOUR CHANGE WOULD STOP YOU FROM TAKING PROCRIBED DRUGS.......she had my attention. So I wrote down the following

Vitamin E

Vitamin B Complex

Vitamin B-12

Vitamin D

Vitamin C

I cancelled my doctors appointment and went to the store and got these vitamins......started out with lowest milligrams.......I was to give it 2 weeks to notice any change ........but within the first week.......no hot flashes.......no waking up during the night sweating........and that hateful crappiness all GONE.........after about 6 months I had to increase the milligrams but have been taking these vitamins ever since......

I had a sales job and one of my clients was going thru her change and she knew we were the same age and asked what my secret was cause I did not look my age......always in a good mood and I told her and she asked me to give her the list of vitamins. A couple months later I ran into her and asked how she was doing since  I did not notice a change in her mood or appearance and she said  THANK YOU  for your suggestions but it was just to much effort to get started maybe one day..........

I am allergic to antibiotics so a few years ago I had a bladder infection.......and on the weekend to boot. So I got 1 cup of baking soda and filled the tub with warm water and made a sits bath.........took 3 Vitamin C tablets........did this every 3 hours........after 3 baths and a total of 9 Vitamin C tablets the infection was gone......pain free.......one note when you take a large amount of Vitamin C tables it may give you a loose stool.

I am a big fan of Epsom Salts........here is something that I make and use daily and Bill loves it too.

HOMEMAD LAVENDAR COCONUT OIL SALT SCRUB

2 CUPS COCONUT OIL

1 1/2 CUPS EPSON SALT

20 DROPS OF ESSENTIAL LAVENDER OIL

ADD COCONUT OIL, EPSOM SALT AND ESSENTIAL OIL TO A SMALL BOWL.....MIX WITH SPOON UNTIL WELL BLENDED. STORE IN A GLASS CONTAINER WITH TIGHT FITTING LID.  You could use a plastic container but I avoid plastic as much as possible.

USE ON BODY AS YOUR LAST STEP IN TAKING A SHOWER.

I work in my gardens a lot and have scratches on my arms some worse than others and a couple showers of using this scrub my scratches are healed.........this is great at night cause the lavender smell relaxes you........I no longer have to use any other lotions thanks to the coconut oil. Plus this is chemical free..........your skin is so smooth.

If anyone tries this scrub please review it......I think you will be pleased with the results.

The only one of your menopause supplements that I am NOT already on, is the E.  Will add that to the shopping list.

- oh, mind you, I did read somewhere that taking LARGE amounts of Vit C can, over time, cause and imbalance in another vitamin.  Will try and find that link, because first we would need to know what a LARGE amount is, then what OVER TIME means, and then what the other vit in quesition is.

Will try and find the info. :)

This is Great Jeannie, thanks so much!! I too take all those vitamins except E, I used to take it and for the life of me don't remember why I stopped, but it's back on my grocery list now! Oh and for some reason I can't take the B complex, so I take B6 and B12. Just a note in case anyone else has that problem. A long time ago a GYN told me that trick and it does work!

Also a note on the Vit C, I take that every day too, 1000 mg, as it also helps with allergies. I've been doing that for many many years now with great success. Now with the natural honey added, thanks to Jeannie, I have little problems with allergies!

I'm making your scrub today Jeannie, that sounds fantastic!  I've been covered with some sort of sores the last few weeks, not sure what's going on but this sounds like it will do the trick to clear that up! Sooo excited to try it! Hugs:pash:

One thing with Vitamin E is that it thins your blood.......but I have been taking it for years and have had no problems. But people who already take blood thinner should not take it.  You know Jo it seems I read somewhere about Vitamin C so if you can find that article that would be worth reading.

Vicki just remember the salt is going to sting your cuts/sores......but I love this scrub.  Bill is using it too especially on his elbows and knee he says he has noticed a difference in the feel..........

Great information.......just think the amount of people that take daily intake of 1000mg of vitamin c and do not know this information. I buy my vitamins thru a company that sells high quality vitamins and the vitamin c that I take is high in ascorbic acid......and that is all they sell. Now I could juice but here we go with time and having the product on hand.  I have a juicer and on occasion juice but it takes a lot of STUFF to get what you need for your daily intake.........another thing that I read that was of interest people that consume large amount of caffeine during the day whether it be coffee or soda that the caffeine  undoes all the calcium you take in, in a day.

Great video thanks Jo! That probably is why the dr had said not to get the large dose ones, just take that amount total. But I will be sure to check the labels like he said!

Thanks Jeannie you hit on the reason and just saved me from myself again! I'm a bleeder (Von Willabrans) so I do have to stay away from anything that thins my blood.. I already bleed like a stuck pig even from a paper cut and am always covered in bruises.. Can't afford to make it any worse- no Vit e on my list now!! :o

As with the paws what works for some people may not work for others. Even with supplements you have to be careful. I don't take any prescriptions so I do not have to worry about anything crossing the other out but our bodies will only handle what it wants and will let you know in a certain way. As a young child I had these tiny red bumps on my legs.....they did not itch but were unsightly....so I was prescribed Vitamin A tablets....and every time I took one I would be sick to my stomach so the doctor prescribed lambs wool to be rubbed on my legs daily and after a few weeks my legs cleared up. Never had that problem since.  My system will not tolerate vitamin A supplements........as an adult I started taking a multi vitamin and again suffered from a sick stomach......multi vitamin had vitamin A....as I got older I thought it wise to take a calcium supplement but had to stop that as it caused constipation.........so your body will yell at you in one form or another.  We need to listen to our body and do what we are told if we want a happy life. I never had a problem with antibiotic until I was in my 30's........my allergic reaction is huge skin blisters on my face and arms. Very painful when they break........so anything that sounds great because it works for someone else always read up on it......learn about it......check the health benefits and the side effects. I think we are a group of people that want a healthy lifestyle and let me say one thing it is A LOT of work and you have to WANT to do it.......I only wish I knew what I know now when I was younger..........in my situation I have no medical history to look back on  other then my grandfather died of lung cancer but this man smoked a pack a day......and I got word that my father also died of lung cancer, another smoker...........so I am on this journey with a blank canvas.........

Jeannine..so you still take those vitamins..how much (milligrams) are you taking from each? there are a lot of different ones in dosage..

thanks for the tip on the sit baths..I am allergic to anti-biotics too..I will certainly go and try this if another bladderinfection comes along

I don't know how I missed this earlier but thank you Jo-Anne! I actually went to check and had forgotten but I did stop taking B6 along time ago! Thankfully my hubby took over putting out the meds so I was going on a very faulty memory..

Geez does anyone know anything to help with memory loss, if so Please please let me know, mine gets worse by the day I swear! :(

Jo-Anne when I first started on this Vitamin regiment I was 46.....and I started with 250mg. on each vitamin......when I noticed the crabby onset coming on again I increased my V-E and V-B-12 to 500mg. the rest I kept at 250mg. When I got in my 50's I increased all of them to where I now take 1000mg. of V-E.......5000mg. V-D (during the winter I double that amount)  and V-B-12 and 1000mg. V-C.  some of the other B's that I take is between 250 and 500 mg. Since I have been on this regiment  which has been now 20 years I can count on my one hand the number of times I have been sick or had a cold. Again this works for me.....my blood pressure and everything else is perfect other than a few aches and pains which is the aging process I am blessed.  My biggest downfall is that I don't drink enough water and I work on that daily......lets put it this way I make an attempt.

Jeannine, you must have lovely skin too with all that Vit. E. If I take 1000mg of Vit. C my back  and my stomach hurts, that is why I take an Ester-C vitamine now. I think you are taking a lot of B12, but you are feeling good by it and that is what you said earlier, it is personal. Adding this link anyway :D  no idea if it is true, didn`t have time yet to have a further look, but I will because it is interesting..Nowadays our food quality is bad also to get the natural vitamins from......

Thanks Jo-Anne that was an interesting read.  I make a point of trying to read as much information on supplements as I can and the sites I have read on Vitamin E and D  I should not be taking the amount that I take but I can tell a difference in my whole demeanor when I either don't take them or cut back on the mg..........maybe if I was taking other medication on top of the supplements that might be a big factor.......and if and when that should ever happen I will research it as asking Doctors it is amazing how many have no idea about supplements some I think would prefer you not take any............Years ago in my other life I had a family doctor that I liked and I only go when I am SICK......he looked at my chart and said very rudely......WHAT IS IT WITH YOU...YOU NEED TO COME HERE MORE OFTEN THEN THIS........that was my last visit with him.

HOME REMEDY........

FOOT SOAK

1 CUP LISTERINE

1 CUP VINEGAR......EITHER WHITE OR CIDER

2 CUPS WARM WATER

SOAK YOUR FEET FOR 10-15 MINUTES.......RUB BOTTOMS OF FEET TO REMOVE ANY DEAD SKIN.

My Brother In Law walks 5 to 6 miles a day........he lives in Florida and he called saying he was having issues with his feet. The heels of his feet were cracking and starting to bleed and no matter what he tried he could not get any relief. I gave him this FOOT SOAK  recipe to try as it was pretty inexpensive in case he had to purchase anything.....but thankfully he had all the ingredients. He called a week later and said THANK YOU that his heels were healing up.......he did the soak once a day............I personally have not tried this but it is in my Home Remedy Book for further reference.........just wanted to pass it on.

Bill talk to his brother yesterday and he said his feet are feeling and looking good so it worked for him. I don't know the reason but men seem to have this problem when they age maybe because they wear socks 99% of the time which does not allow their feet to breath. Just like Coconut oil and Epsom salts looks like Listerine is another staple to keep on hand.......it seems to be a ingredient used for a number of things other then mouth wash.........

On my list as well! Listerine..heard that thinned with water its a great way to get rid of fleas on your dog as well as its environment. So after this nice footsoak Jeannine you put something on your feet to soften them or isn`t that neccesary..

now that is an idea..just to mix those two..tea tree oil they say has many good qualities..but I don`t like the smell of it..

I have not tried this soak but even when I do the Epsom salts soak and me feet feel soft I still apply coconut oil......now the tea oil with the coconut oil sounds like a good idea.....Bill loves the smell of the tea tree oil.....it is not my favorite smell. I did read about using Listerine using it as a flea treatment.....I have made a spray using Listerine and some other ingredients to deter flies and that works great and the smell has a fresh scent. Being that we are on the subject of feet.......Vicks Vapor Rub is a remedy to get rid of nail fungus......Bill had an issue with one of his big toes and a couple nights of applying the Vicks and putting on half sock to keep from rubbing off on the sheets  within a  couple of days it was gone and he has not had the issue since.............
