Remodeling Uhg!

Well I finally have something to write about. I'll tell ya remodeling is for the birds. We thought we would take out carpet and trim, paint and lay new laminate wood floors, uhuh! We ended up renting a u-haul trailer so we could put our furniture in it. I had my china cabinet and my 60in. tv in my kitchen, (good thing about that was I didn't have to cook)! I'll tell ya the people who put up this nasty ugly border need to be taken out to the woodshed for a good lashing. I had to rent a steamer to get it off, (fyi fabric softner mixed w/water doesn't work)! We ended up having to put 2 coats of paint on all the walls. We got the glueless flooring but it didn't lock as easily as they said it would. Ofcourse w/the age of our house whenever we striped something down we encountered a new problem we had to fix before we could remodel it! All I can say is I'm finally at the end of the project. We are putting up our trim and baseboards this wknd. and my new floor and the pretty antique yellow paint I picked out look great! All we'll have left is our transitions for the floor. We want to remodel our bathe later this yr. or early next but I'm beginging to rethink it.

Yay!!! :aktion033: Another Blogger! I'm glad, lol. I know what it's like to remodel as I've been there a couple of times but you just have to think about the finished result or you'll never get there :P . You should post some before and after pics ;) .

Melissa, I really feel for you! We did the flooring thing in both kids bedrooms the last two weekends, and our whole house was a mess. We didn't have any problem getting it to snap together though, I actually thought is was pretty simple to lay and beautiful when we finished. What color did you use?

About 17 years ago we bought this house very cheap and have had several projects each year to fix it up the way we want it without going into debt. Our biggest project we ripped off the old kitchen and built on a 700 square foot addition. My husband and I did all of the work and believe it or not we are still married. However there were times that it was quite questionable. Two years ago we redid my daughter's bathroom and I think it is pretty cute, and more than likely sometime this summer we are going to do our main bathroom, yuck!

You should post some pictures of your finished rooms! By the way a hot bath, some ibuprofen, and a couple of days rest will do wonders for your aching body! :P

We ended up chosing a light oak color. It went in fairly easy but this house was built in '54 and they did a crappy job, cheap materials and shortcuts. We put the new floors in our bedroom, the hall, marks bedroom and the living room area. I left the lanolium in the kitchen and bath. This house is soo unlevel that we had to do some repairs to each floor to make it as level as possible so it would be durable, we just didn't want to snap it together and hoped that it held up. When we first moved in 4yrs. ago, it was a MESS!!! We had a 40amp. fuse box, we had to have everything rewired to a 200amp. The basement leaked, we had to add extra dirt around the foundation to help w/runoff, the sewer crapped out (no pun intended) a yr. after we moved in and had to point repair it, we may still have to put a new one in but so far so good! They removed 2 trees in the backyard but left the stumps for us to remove and there is one remaing huge tree we're getting ready to take down it's dead and dropping huge limbs everywhere the last 2yrs. We haven't done any other landscaping 'cause we want to clear that tree and plant some new grass here in a couple of wks. They also left a broken patio and walkway in the backyard we just got broke up last fall. We're getting ready to plant some grass in a couple of wks. and I'm hoping by the end of spring to start doing some landscaping. We have everything updated that we wanted to update except the bathroom and it's going to get done the end of this yr. or first of next. Then I'm hoping in about 3yrs. when it's paid off to reside, reroof, add gutters and new windows. I told hubby once we started this it was never going to end. We really like doing it though 'cause it's ours and for soo many yrs. we rented. Now in about 3 1/2yrs. it'll be paid off and will be totally ours, thats a nice feeling.

Just an update and a small venting session. :P This is something that I wish we hadn't started. I love my new floors but getting the baseboards down and the trim up is slow going. Poor Ray was sick all of those mths. and that put a big halt on things. Ofcourse I don't know how to measure and cut. He won't let anyone touch his tools. Then thres JoJo. A few of the new baseboards we put in he's decided to chew. Soo... I told him this wknd. we need to start on the ceiling and other trim and leave the baseboards 'til later seeing as how we have to replace 3 of them anyway. :D

It's a neverending project! I always feel that way when I start one but when it's finally done, always glad I did :)

Good luck, hope it comes together quickly for you!
